Seems to have lost communication at 2.1 km from surface. Early data seems to point to failure.

Cocoa $11,000 per tonne.
yeah it sucks. I was watching it live. Everything was going great, and then zero communication. Hoping it is just a comms failure and it did land successfully, but i think everyone now is just expecting to find a debris field on the surface of the moon. I hope they try again.

It’s hard to confirm. Apparently even the Hubble telescope can’t zoom in deep enough to see anything that sized.

I think they still have the orbiter that is supposed to be orbiting above the site at a height of 100kms with some hi res cameras on it. even if they can't zoom in tight to see the lander, if it did crash, they should be able to see the impact crater / scar, no?This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Yes, it is still active. Although it might be really hard to see. The LRO did confirm the crash of Beresheet.
https://www.space.com/beresheet-moon...te-photos.html
Although it may be impossible to confirm Indias probe crashed because of location at the south pole, if it landed in a crater there will be very little sunlight to image a crash. It took the LRO a couple years to find Lunokhod 2 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunokhod_2 and even then, they didn't really correctly identify the craft, they only correctly identified the tracks of the rover.

And here I thought I knew a lot about space stuff.

Oh man don't quote me. My expertise in this is watching a 2 hour live stream on YT, and a quick once over of wikipediaThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Sounds like a paneer miss.
Since a moon thread would not be right without a conspiracy:
Why did two separate nations decide to attempt a lander/rover this year, instead of any of the previous years of previous decades? Its been rumored that NASA released some key technologies (usually a 40 year moratorium for military tech) that would allow some nations to attempt it. Not the least of which was fuel, fuel nozzle, and guidance.
Now: I see this one of a few ways. NASA has been sending out bad data knowingly (sabotage). The data was never factual and was totally fabricated (my stance). The manufacture of the probes was inferior (possible, but with todays per atom manufacturing leaps compared to spaghetti wiring, ziptied to the sides of the Apollo and transistors hand woven by human hands, unlikely)
China does not use much or arguably any of NASA's data. Which to me, explains why they are succeeding.
The hand woven memory modules that stored all the guidance are literally heavier than the rover attempts. By my estimation: If you throw out all the data that NASA collected during from about 1965 to 1980, you have a greater chance of having a successful moon landing.
Dun dun duhhhh.
