Default Homeless Living In My Backyard

Who's ready for another Mar thread?

I have a strip of grass behind my house with a fence separating me from the businesses. The problem is there are actually 2 fences there and someone has taken up residency in between them as you can see from this photo I took out my window. I'm actually quite impressed with what they've built there, they have tarps on top and bottom with some hard substance for a floor. Everything is tied off to the trees and fence very nicely.

I called the police and the city before I went on vacation mid August. I just got back to Calgary last weekend and the tarps have been moved around but the people are still there. We phoned again a few days ago and last night I could hear them arguing with someone so I'm assuming that was the police coming to ask them to move on. We phoned the police again today and were told they can only ask the people to move on, they can't force the homeless to move. They also don't do anything if they come out and the people aren't there at that time and the city won't come out to take down the shelter until the police have removed the people.

We spoke to the 2 businesses there and they said they have called to complain multiple times, one of the business owners told us they see the couple doing heroin back there sometimes and the place is full of needles.

Now I realize I'm going to have to do something about this myself so I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend ways to get rid of them. Are there places in Calgary that sell smoke bombs? Are there services I can hire to force them to move? I don't like the fact these people have a close watch on when I come and go from my home and when my girlfriend is at home alone.

Turn your sprinklers on, keep it on 24/7. Nobody likes being wet and cold.

I alsso thought of the sprinkler solution as well but at the same time what might be the consequences from said squatters?

moisture is the essence of wetness, wetness is the essence of beauty. so...they'll turn into supermodels and no longer be poor?

I sometimes am moist but certainly that moistness has never evolved into the essence of beauty and moist certainly a super model I am not.

At an old customers place, there were homeless people living underneath the loading dock. They were told to vacate, but they wouldn't. I had to install a 60 ton chiller, so we put it right next to the loading dock to make it as uncomfortable as possible for the dock dwellers. So I start the machine up and one of them comes out to ask me what this machine is, I tell him it's a scroll chiller and its very loud. The man then asks me why they weren't consulted on the installation and if I can do anything to mitigate the noise, I say "no" . The man asks me if the owners are going to help them find a new place to live, I inform he doesn't have a place, he is living under a fucking loading dock. Good luck Mar, these people aren't easy to deal with, and the cops don't want to get involved.

Mar do you own the piece of land they are squatting on? If you do then wouldn't they be trespassing?

Just make sure they see you pull up in the Veloster. They'll be so embarrassed, they'll pack up and leave without drawing any further attention to themselves.

The crack heads are there because

    - dark
    - isolated
    - hidden from plain view
    - quiet
    - government has made it acceptable (laws do fuck all)

The Police should have given you advise on CPTED.

    - setup lights to brighten their nights
    - setup hidden high pitched sound, speakers (wont travel through walls and only short range)
