Why the difference and which is better?
Why the difference and which is better?
Will fuck off, again.
I find the US election cycle to be an entertainment machine, meant to drive ad sales, clicks and distract from whats going on. I follow US politics loosely for fun and I swear the 2020 election drums were beating even when Trump first took office.
I think the Canadian one is a better approach but almost wonder if its too short?

More time isn't going to assist in informing the population or create a more effective government. Canada does so many things poorly, but this isn't one of them.

The election drums are going year round now thanks to social media.
Canada > USA by far. Get the shit done and over with. The US seems a lot more drawn out for the sake of the big media companies taking in the money. It gives them constant coverage and drama. Like a dozen democratic primary candidates all proposing their platforms plus then they get coverage criticizing them all. Etc. The whole thing is just a big reality TV series to distract from how dysfunctional their government currently is
I find our campaigns even at the usual 5-6 week time frame are too long anyway... especially this time around given the media does not want to question Dear Leader and beat up on the Conservatives instead and that seems to be amplified this time around.
I bet you a shockingly large % if Canadians don’t even know we are in an election campaign.

I think it's only amplified because everyone is on social media and the majority of the voter pool are millennials (20-39).This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Two different systems.
In the US you are voting for the leader.
The US is made up of different states. So each prospective candidate has to reach out to different states (not all) and show why they are the best candidate and go through the voting system till there is only one.
The Canadian system is based on the British Parliamentary system. You don't vote for the party leader. You are voting for the member in your constituency. So you don't really need party leaders going to provinces. Thats the job of the constituency member. The will of the people is enacted through the elected representative in parliament(not the case we are seeing in today's world as demonstrated by Brexit).
So you don't need a lengthy system.
Social media and mainstream media today portrays the Parliamentary system to be like the American system. i,e you are voting for the leader. When in fact you are not. Thats the problem.
In terms of which is better. I prefer the parliamentary system. But each one works best for its respective framework.
