    Default Windows install iMac 2011 - 27"

    Hey everyone,

I'm trying to install windows on a used iMac I bought. It's a 2011 27" iMac, on El Capitan OS-X.

I used bootcamp but it doesn't let me select the windows ISO file. I googled and it seems people suggest "hacking" boot camp by changing a line to allow for USB ISO selection.

I tried it and it looked like it worked. The mac reboots and then I get a black screen that says "No bootable device - insert boot disk".

Plz help! I'd like to be able to use windows on this mac. I've been able to use windows on my older MBP so I'm quite surprised this iMac is having this issue.

    Plz help, thanks in advance!

Does the USB need to be formatted with Master Boot Record?

You don’t need windows to be on a USB. Put it on the main system drive and point boot camp assistant to it to initiate the install.

You need to use Apple’s utility you can’t just partition and install windows.

There is also a chance that installing windows 10 on your iMac isn’t supported (8+ years old)

I've been trying to install win 10 and it's been a complete bitch.

Is there a way to install win 8 instead? Or win 7?

I just need windows access lol
