Default Would you buy the Saudi Aramco IPO?

It's been in the news for what seems like forever, but news is that it'll finally happen before new years.
No official word yet on how this will be made available around the world, but that's part of the plan.

Personally I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole, but hey, what do you think? If you are able to invest in this, would you?

I wouldn’t buy any company where common shareholders don’t control the company. You are just giving the Saudi’s free money.

I think the bigger problem is the obvious lack of transparency and credibility.

But people WILL buy it right? Presumably at least some of those people are knowledgeable and sophisticated investors. What's thier play?

There are just so many reasons not to buy. But there will always be some people who think it’s a golden goose, maybe it is but I’m sure not betting on it.

Then again how much worse of an investment can it be than Canadian energy lol.

    Initial spike, then dumping.
So likely buying first 30 minutes on morning dip and sell later in morning. If no dip, not chasing.

You answered your own question... There will be so many powerful tentacles plying the levers behind Aramco, with such an enormous vested interest in their ongoing success, that I would expect it to be a pretty good play, at least for a while early on.

You can't extrapolate the actions of truly sophisticated investors to the average joe. They almost always will have more information than you do - especially about when to exit.

The classic example is Warren Buffet bailing out Goldman days (hours?) before the Obama administration announced the bail out. The fact that he and Obama have each other on speed dial had absolutely nothing to do with BH's actions there, I'm sure.

IF you can get in at the IPO price, do it.

There has been so much hype for this IPO.... That said, sell it all 2 hours later.

Putting my extremely tin-foiled hat on, could the shit performance of recent IPO's be done to consciously/subconsciously dissuade investment in Aramco?

Don't we all do that every day anyway as a result of our oil policies?
