Pink/red light above driver

K, I was watching qualifying and noticed that while proceeding down the pit lane, every car had a pinkish red light lit above the driver. Once they exited the pit area the light went off, what is the purpose of this light?

Edit, I've been able to figure out it's a ERS status indicator but why would it go out once clear of the pit area? Any reading I've done says it should be either red or green while the car is running but not off.

Never noticed it even turned off. But you got it, it’s just an indicator for trackside workers.

Saw it turn off in Q3 as cars left the pit area, knowing what it is and why it is, it does seem odd to it turning off.

To be fair, nobody is touching the car at speed. I miss the first days of KERS when drivers hopped off the cars.

I know the exact shot in qualy you saw this. I noticed it too. 3-4 cars all had it, turned off when they passed the pit exit. I thought it might be a pit / speed limiter indication light.
