    Default New Car Options?

    Help a dude out!

Wife wants me to look at replacing the Lancer Ralliart before it becomes a repair liability, but I'm seriously struggling to find something that appeals to me.

Needs: 2 or 4 doors, auto, new (warranty is happy wife), build cost at or below 55k.
Wants: AWD, 250+ HP, bit of fun available, smaller sedan or hatchback.

Right now the leader is a loaded Mazda3 GT Turbo, maybe breaking the used rule for an AMG A35, then in a distant second of Subaru WRX and Golf GTI as possible contenders, but I don't see much else I like out there.

Mitsu doesn't make fun cars anymore, Ford doesn't make any cars anymore, Civics/Toyota I wasn't seeing anything, but I'm not familiar with their modern line up.

    Anything I'm overlooking?

    Didn't realize a golf R was doable for $55k.

I revise and relent. Golf R is a no brainer.

I'd probably want the used A35 over the Golf R, but both of those are really the only good choices. Infiniti Q50 is a turd. BMW X1/X2 are pretty mediocre compared to the MB or Golf R.

Corolla GR is manual only in Canada, sadly.

Few new ideas in here. Golf R would need a bit of a discount, with taxes and fees, it's pushing $60.

Yup I got my MT Golf R for ~$53.5K OTD, a DSG is a bit more, but I think you'd be right at the $55K price point if you're patient and willing to shop around.

Golf R for new. One of, if not the most fun daily I've had.

There is not much out there.
I was going to say Type R. But its a manual.
GTI would be a option or Mazda GT. But the Mazda just looks like a odd shaped bar of soap.

I think the Golf R is going to have a refreshed interior hopefully next year. Might want to look into that if that’s a choice for you.

Or even better. Bring that up this year to get a better price on one

The wife and I love her Mazda3 GT turbo, she almost got it without the turbo but I straightened her out.

Would be silly to consider a slightly used A35 but not a slightly used Golf R imo. Golf R is a pretty unbeatable little package at the moment in terms of dollars per fun (DPF)
