Didn’t Model X come out in 2016? Feels long in the tooth, especially for an EV (which seem to advance more quickly than ICE vehicles). I’m a bit surprised there is a $50k difference to the model Y, I thought Elon dropped the prices by like $50k on the X.

They sell over ten times as many model Y as they do X (just 30k last year). It’s same as the 3 vs the S. They just keep them around to have higher tiered models available but they’re not the revenue drivers.

Good read on the X vs Y... thanks. Agreed, the sloped hatches can be an annoyance; I have similar frustrations not infrequently. Really I will need to go do a comparative space review in person to figure things out. One additional downside I now see with the rooftop box on the Y is the dealing with the "inconvenience/extra effort" when mounting and loading. Versus if I opted for the 6 seat arrangement on the X and then dropped down the rear bench which becomes flush with the floor? Also, the roof-rack rails on the Y only appear to go horizontally across as opposed to along the long axis, unless it can be configured differently?
Depends how tall you are? I'm your typical short Chinese dude at 5'6" and I need to step on the door sills to reach into the middle of my box when it's mount on top of my 3. I don't leave the box on full time so it's not a big deal for me. How often would you need to store the extra stuff upstairs vs just in the trunk of the Y? Don't forget about the frunk and sub-trunk for extra storage too! You're not only limited to the main trunk compartment for everything. Speaking of frunks, I'll have to admit that the X's frunk is pretty generous - easily the biggest of any Tesla right now, including the Cybertruck. I can fit our entire camping gear (chairs, tent, cots, axe, etc.) just in the frunk of the X. That Y's frunk is still very reasonable though. More than enough to throw a carry on or even a mid-sized cooler up there if you needed.

Not sure why you'd need to the roof rack rails to be mounted fore & aft. Cars that come with fore & aft bars need cross rails to mount anything to it anyway - think any Subie SUV. Yes, the Tesla bars are mounted horizontally/sideways but that's all you'd need. My box mounts directly to the bars, as do my bike racks.

What's the expected Canadian MSRP of the Cybertruck?

    Rough day for Tesla

    Tesla Profits Declined 23% In 2023 (forbes.com)

Tesla reported earnings per share of $3.12 for 2023, a 23% decline from 2023’s record $4.07; the company’s $16.6 billion in adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization was 13% lower than 2022’s $19.2 billion adjusted EBITDA.

Though the bottom line showed weakness, Tesla’s top line was stronger than ever, as its $96.8 billion in 2023 revenue was 19% higher than last year’s prior record.

For the fourth quarter, Tesla reported $25.2 billion of sales and $0.71 earnings per share, missing average analyst estimates of $25.6 billion and $0.73, according to FactSet.

Bumped into a dude with the 2024 Model X Plaid on the weekend. Red Exterior, white interior, looked sharp and those gull-wing doors are eye-catching.

He was excited to how off the "light show" feature, and he said it would "dance" too.

Step 1: he made his buddies get out of the car, because he thought it needed to be empty to activate the feature.
Step 2: He messed with his phone for 2 minutes, and the doors closed.
    Step 3: He waited.
Step 4, he messed with his phone and the windows rolled down.
Step 5, he looked inside to see if the screen was showing anything.
Step 6, he messed with his phone and the windows went back up.
Step 7, he told us "he'd never tired it before but it was supposed to be cool"
Step 8, he told us the car was amazing and we should buy one.

He looked pretty happy with his life.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

Yeah exactly. However, he was so happy and effusive about his car. He loves it and that's a beautiful thing. We should all be as happy as that dude.
