    Default Plate / Registration Cancellation

Hey guys just wondering how the system works for cancelling a plate?

Sold the car out of province, want to make that clear to registry so I think I need to go in pay the 10 bucks get my refund and cancel the plate.

Only thing is the plate is my Vanity and I want to keep it and be able to reuse it on a future car.

Does cancelling it mean I have to give up the plate?

Just want to make sure I am doing the right steps here.

    TIA

Why do you need to cancel rhe plate?
    You mean cancel the registration?

You own that plate for life.

This is what I am unclear on. I’ve never not transferred my plate/reg to another car is all.

I could just let it expire I guess? I’m obviously going to keep the plate I just want to make sure I am clearing it properly to use next time.

You can just go to the registry and cancel the registration on that car. I don't know if you get a refund for the remainder of the year but I doubt it.

The plate is yours for life. You can just register it on your next vehicle, it has nothing to do with the current registration on this car.

Yep, seen it done it. Don't know how much you have left on the registration. It was barely worth my time to go to the registry and wait for the cheque to come in when I did it.

Hijacking: can you sell custom plates? I have UMADBRO that I don't use and someone offered me $500 for it a little while back. I was under the impression you can't sell custom plates. Is that true? I've gotten mixed answers from people at the registry.

With that plate you are almost obligated to buy a Prius or a Tesla.

I had it on a '05 Wine Red Mustang GT w/ a red leather interior and an axleback exhaust. It was perfect.

Now I drive a Fusion. Not such a good fit anymore.

I almost feel like the old six digit plates are custom. I'm keeping mine forever.

You sir have never driven a Fusion.

Even with the 2.0L turbo, this thing has the get-up and go of a snail climbing uphill in the middle of a torrential rain storm.

It's one of the most abysmal cars I've owned in recent years and I hate it. Thanks ex-biz partner for fucking me out of $12k and forcing me to get this hunk of crap.

I received two identical vanity plates when mine came in. Even if I had to give one back I'd still keep the unused one for mammaries.

Have they not always handed them out in pairs?

Huh. I’ve never thought my father in laws was that bad?

Was more a comment on how much I dislike that gen of mustang haha ( and I own one ).

Anyways. Yes I did receive a second plate.

Lol you replaced the Jeep not the C63. I suggest creating one of those 'what's next' threads - those are always fun. lol

I believe you can sell it to/from your own corporation. And from there you can sell it with the corporation.
Probably more effort than it's worth though.

A personalized licence plate can only be transferred:

    • to an immediate family member, such as mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, spouse, common-law spouse and in-laws
    • between a company and the company owner, when the person is the only owner of the company
