Default I am confused whether the 2020 Honda Civic SI Type R is 2 door or 4 door?

    https://www.carscoops.com/2017/07/ho...-civic-type-r/

    https://baiowulf.com/2020-honda-civi...n-and-concept/

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T30ITwiXyHc

    https://hondachanges.co/2020-honda-c...-civic-type-r/

I just want to see a 2 door at 300 HP. There is the 1st link that shows a 2 door. And the youtube shows a 300 HP Civic SI

but the other youtube video shows the upcoming 2020 model is 4 door.

    are they making both?

Personally I'd just like to see an Si with more than a pathetic ~10% increase in HP over a generic Civic. It would also be nice if it came in a Hatch but that will never happen since the Si is a North America only vehicle.

I haven't read or seen anything that would suggest a 2-door Type R is coming in current Hatch form. 2020 isn't a redesign year either (that will be 2022-2023) so it's even less likely it will be significantly different than the current model.

If you want 2 doors and 300HP you can flash the Si coupe to roughly 260 HP / 300 TQ at the crank which is close but not quite there.

There's been no mention of a 2 door Type R on the civic forums, the pics you have seen are concepts only. That YouTube video is rubbish, the Si has 205 HP and the Type R has 306 HP.

No, we get screwed in NA comparered to literally the rest of the world when it comes to cars and selection.

SUV and trucks only! Next the Civic will become a North American-only crossover!! LOL

Current Type-R will stay as 4 door hatch until 2021 when they close Swindon in UK.

Afterward, hatch production will be relocated to US. No idea about the fate of Type-R tho.

My bet is to accommodate hatch to be build in US, coupe will probably end after this generation. There is no way there will be a Type-R coupe. Especially rumor is that next Type-R if they build it will be a hybrid.

The Type R now (4 door hatch) looks great, sexier and cooler looking than the Coupe.

So, just get the Type R sedan now!

The Type R always comes late, unlike other civic, come in Nov with new model year, I think the 2018 Type R arrived in spring 2018, and 2019 model also arrived in spring 2019, so we probably won't see 2020 Type R for half year. (I read that Honda may offer a tiny spoiler as well)

flash the Si coupe to roughly 260 HP
how do you do the above? does it damage the car in some way?

    for eg., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXmMRTJqo7U

Kraftwerks seems to be very good, but have a look, in 2 reviews, the same component fails:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXmMRTJqo7U

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12G_GQhF34s&t=386s

I like the higher 300 HP for performance, but 200HP is quite good in most cases. So since Kraftwerks seems to be the leader and it fails like that, there is no sense to risk it

I can buy 300HP car elsewhere, just not as reliable as Honda. Since Type R won't have 2 door, I'll stick to SI

KTuner seems to be the most popular choice, add on the TSP Stage 1 tune and you have a decent boost in performance:

    182whp / 206tq - Factory Calibration
    208whp / 258tq - KTuner Starter 23psi
    237whp / 281tq - TSP Stage 1 Tune

Hondata is pretty popular too. The stock clutch will wear out fast if you're running these numbers and are using boost in overdrive gears or low RPMs in general. Anything that breaks as a result of running a tune will not be covered under warranty.

A Pheonix Yellow prototype has been spotted at the ring. No idea if it's going to be released in 2020 or if NA will get it.

No, but you will void your power train warranty if the dealership can in any way link something that breaks to the flash. The cars are tuned ridiculously modestly from the factory including artificial turbo lag and rev hang which makes them so easy to drive. If you run +9psi the clutch will wear out faster, +6psi is a lot easier on it.

Hondata / Ktuner - quick flash and you're good to go.

I can get some shop to do a Ktuner for me. I probably need to upgrade the clutch.

But what does a TSP stge 1 tune involves? Any drawback to it? I'm guessing it's from these people, but what do you have to buy?

because I don't want to end up like that Kraftwerk supercharger w/ this kind of failure:

TSP stage 1 tune is just a more aggressive tune than the regular KTuner tune, you load it into your ECU using the KTuner. In fact if you buy the KTuner from TSP they include the TSP tune saving you $80 USD. Drawbacks are more wear on your stock parts if you drive too aggressively. There are many people who have gone 20,000 KM+ with the tune and have not experience clutch slipping, yet some do in less then 5,000 KM. Lots of info on the TSP site:

    https://twostepperformance.com/ktune...uning-package/
    https://twostepperformance.com/ktune...uning-package/

If you get a flex fuel kit you can go with TSP stage 2 and really get the Si moving (270whp / 327tq - TSP Stage 2 Tune w/ Flex Fuel)

    https://twostepperformance.com/two-s...onda-civic-si/

I recommend you research more on the civicx.com forums, tons of info there for tuning mods and more.

The Swindon plant was a disaster. I don't consider anything out of that plant a real Honda as the build quality is embarrassing for any brand let alone Honda. Next gen hatches and the Type R should be much improved. Even Mexicans can build better cars than the Brits.

I'm not saying you're wrong but do you have any objective sources for that from people who are actually privy to the necessary info to make that claim? What quality issues have been arising specifically and how many vehicles did it effect? Are there any recalls or service advisories related to those issues? I have read about quality issues from their locally made cars in China but not Swindon.

The previous managing director of Honda UK (no current obligation to Honda) went out of his way to say "the quality in Swindon was close to the top of all of Honda’s plants." (https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/i...utting-swindon)

Personally speaking I have had zero issues and haven't noticed a single thing out of place, albeit that is a sample size of one. I have no rattles or creaks or anything else that I can detect after almost 4 years of DD. A body shop I went to actually complimented the paint job, and they know a heck a lot more about paint than I do. I asked 3 different Honda dealers (service dept) and while I am sure they're biased to varying degrees, they said they haven't seen any differences based on build origin.

Curious as to what your sources are for that as googling "honda quality issues swindon" doesn't give me much other than the odd unsubstantiated forum comment and dozens of people saying they have had no problems.

The one thing I noticed personally in 2017 when I leased mine, is that every single door on the coupes/sedans rattled a bit when you shut it - the hatches all had the solid "thud" I expected. I have not been able to see if that is still the case with the 2020's or not, and it also could be related to the design.

It doesn't really matter since they're closing it for other reasons anyway, but I am genuinely curious where this information is coming from as you really seem to hate Swindon, but I never read about it anywhere else.
