My 2 year old heard a crappy old Subaru rattle by the house and she asked me "daddy, what's that?". I told her it was a 4 cylinder Subaru and her reply was "I don't like 4 cylinders, only V8s". 2 years old!
You, sir, are learning her good.

Working a casino tonight and tomorrow night on very short notice (less than a day) because the parents whose kids will benefit can't be bothered. Even better, had one parent try to call me out for her not being able to volunteer even though the notice (not my responsibility) had been sent out several times in the past few months. Apparently my fault for not holding her hand enough. People. Ugh.

On a plus and nice note, over $180,000 into the pool that our non-profit gets paid out from. For 2 days, extremely good numbers.

Casinos are such good fundraisers. Even with the hassles and difficulty getting volunteers, the $/hr is excellent.

What kind of $/hr are we talking about?

More than $50 last time I did the calculations. Maybe up to $100 sometimes. It varies a little. Need hundreds of man-hours in a 2-day span though.

2 days, 38 total shifts (afternoon and then the evening/night shift) 8 hours per shift
7 count room people, 4 chip runners (2 per shift), 2 general managers (1 per shift), 2 bankers (1 per shift), 4 cashiers (2 per shift)

Average $70k to the non-profit in the city of Calgary. City of Edmonton non-profits do much better ($88,000 for one Edmonton based non-profit I'm sort of involved with).

So $70,000 divided by 38 x 8hr shifts works out to about $230 per volunteer hour worked but count room volunteers work less hours, around 4 hours so it would be better than $230 ($282).

I can quote all of this because it's very fresh in my mind, at 3;45 am this morning I just finished up two evening/night banker shifts in a row and did a lot of the computer work plus I still sit on the board of our non-profit with signing authority.

In reality, we made $725 per hour because of the $180,000 we realized but that all goes into the quarterly pool which non-profits are paid from on an averaged basis.

All of that is a moot point though as it all comes down to how well a non-profit manages those monies plus affording themselves of other fund raising opportunities.

Got a last minute invite to the flames game last night. Handy living close to the guy with the tickets. Got invited at 6:40, was at dome with him by 7:20. Had a few pops, ran into a few people I know, including one of my favourite beyond.ca members. Great night.

This may seem negative, but it makes me happy when I see spelling errors like this one on google maps.

It tells me that someone took the time to add a place, and maybe they don't have the benefit of the education I've had, or they speak English as a second language, or whatever, but they took the time to try to make the world a better place, and you know what, it's working.
    So, spelling mistakes, solidly nice.

Well, the world is falling apart, so we all need the most nice news possible.
Met some old dude who was shovelling my mother's sidewalk this morning. He says he "takes care of all the old people around here". Nice guy.

I've taken the opposite approach, mouth kissing everyone I meet. You should have seen this idiots face at my CrossFit gym when he went for the post workout high five and I swooped right in and frenched him.
