There was a 5th gen Prelude with widebody kit, 19" wheels, and GT-R headlights and tailights on that Hi-Rev Tuners show. It looked very nice.

Ya the R33 taillights really suit the car, looks good and from what XES told me it wouldve been easier to do that than the Altezza conversion

The R33 taillight conversion is much harder than you think.
First of all, you will have to rebuilt the vehicle above the taillight (i.e. the stock lights are higher than the R33 lights). That takes some time, if done properly with metal.
To add to that an inner housing (similar to the stock inner housing) should be created for the new taillight, to prevent water, etc. from leaking in your trunk.

That brings me to the next, most important point. You MUST destroy the trunk seal to install R33 taillights (unlike the IS300 lights, which can fit without modification to the trunk seal). That means possible water entry, etc. can occur.

Prior to installing my IS300 taillights on the vehicle, I looked into intalling the R33 lights. The money involved to make it work properly is very high. I spoke to the individuals in the US that performed R33 taillight conversions on 92-96 Preludes (i.e. the people who did an R33 conversion on a green prelude). I was told that the trunk did not seal properly (not even close). More bondo, etc. was applied than you or me may ever know.

My rear conversion was done properly (in my opinion). Even though I do regret doing the conversion now, the car is unique (i guess). The stock lights were removed. The side and top of the rear fenders were cut. Metal was rolled and welded to design a new trunk contour. A interior taillight housing was constructed (also out of rolled and bent metal). And to finish it off, the edge of the trunk was trimmed slightly (just enough to allow the trunk seal to remain in stock, functional form).

Just wanted to let you know about the difficulties before you got too far in the project. Generally, the R33 conversion on the 4th gen prelude is done for show purposes only. The vehicle looks great, but functionally is not very good. If you can pull it off, all the power to you (cause it looks great), but expect some troubles along the way (if you want to make it a true daily driver).

    Later,

    XES
