    Default Alberta budget

    And go.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...dget-1.5332779

Major ones are Calgary and Edmonton getting fucked by the charter cancellation, and in my mind a straight lie about income tax..

The major one is the cuts to education/making education more expensive. The most palatable conservative policy is usually that investment in education is an investment in the economy. This budget makes education in this province worse and less accessible, the opposite of a province wanting to show it can forge ahead alone should be doing.

Capital cuts to the city just mean projects get deferred or property taxes will have to go up to maintain infrastructure investment. A politically smart move since people will blame the city and not the province.

I am glad the multi-million dollar twitter accounts are funded, though. Provides job opportunities for aspiring social media managers.

Slashing of infrastructure money means road projects get cancelled and postponed, so that’s a big positive.

What's this lie about income tax I keep hearing about. Was something promised in the campaign last prov election or something?

They said they wouldn’t increase income tax, And while they aren’t raising the tax rate they are de-indexing brackets, credits and exemptions so they won’t increase with inflation like they usually do so chances are you’ll pay more taxes.

    Doesn't look bad.

I would have added more tax on Vape and Pot along with smokes.

So if I understand correctly, the dollar figure within a bracket wont increase.

Example: In 2019, the first $131,220 is taxed at 10%. In 2020, we can expect the $131,220 figure to remain unchanged?

Yeah $75K/yr certainly seems in line with full time teachers’ regular wage.

And the cap on electricity is gone, and a new tourism tax on Airbnb's, education funding slashed, and property taxes going up, hospitals delayed...

    It's a slaughter.

Honestly ... pretty shitty. Definitely fucking over students from multiple angles but hey, they're typically better educated and don't vote UCP so I guess it makes sense. At least the corporations get a 33% tax cut. Because I'm sure that'll create jobs like it does everytime there's a tax cut.

The budget reaches balance just before Mr. Kenney faces re-election in 2023 thanks to steadily increasing oil prices, growing bitumen royalties and the completion of three major pipeline expansions by 2024.
The biggest bullshit, like every conservative government, just bank on oil increasing in price to balance the budget. There's 0 chance Keystone XL is done by 2024 at the rate the US courts go

On Wednesday, Alberta Energy Minister Sonya Savage and Associate Natural Gas Minister Dale Nally announced the provincial government under the UCP government would discontinue the Partial Upgrading Program and the Petrochemical Feedstock Infrastructure Program established by former NDP premier Rachel Notley to fund new midstream processing facilities in the province.
From a different article they are also cutting programs trying to fund midstream facilities that would let us refine more within the province too

Nothing like taking a "pay cut" just because. And cancelling the rail contracts was moronic

I really cant think how the budget could have been worse

But that was my first instinct. Slash education funding, hope for more Kenney voters

In reality, he slashed funding to prove how awful public education is so he can better subsidize private education

Direct wages, yes, but include total compensation and it's probably more like 85-90 teachers.

Maybe the average salary, still probably on the low side as teachers make that after 3-4 years in Calgary, not to mention payroll taxes like cpp and ei, benefits, training, aids...
