Now we're almost a year later, down to $155, RO ticket.

If you go to court is there a chance of demerits, or is the worst result just being convicted of the original?

If there is the possibility of demerits getting added, I'd probably say bail out. But if no demerits are involved, honestly with everything you've invested into this, I don't think the $400 you'd save even comes close to covering your time; might as well see it through!

I don't think demerits are involved. He wasn't pulled over and identified so it's an RO ticket at the end of the day if he's found guilty, full fine. If there's a chance of demerits (there are none) I wouldn't be a dick and tell him to fight it, cuz that shit costs $$$.

Pretty much. I foresee the worst case scenario is incriminating myself on the stand as a witness or something. But I'm not taking the stand as it's an RO ticket. I have nothing to testify to for the event itself. I have only prepared cross examination of the witness in the case (bus driver) and closing arguments with previous case law from CanLii over what meets the definition of stunting blah, blah, blah.

Expectation of mine is I'm guilty and pay full fine. Best case scenario is 1) witness doesn't show or 2) she does show and we run the whole gambit and I win on my defense.

Not trying to get it legalized. Just trying to use existing legislation to support my case that it’s not stunting.

The cycle lobby in Alberta would have to get involved to make it so the TSA explicitly says its legal. AB Trans has told me it’s not allowed nor prohibited... which is why you’ll be going to court over it.

Court clerks told me yesterday that the “error will be corrected and batched over tonight” which means that the conviction on my license will fall off and I’ll be able to register my trailer today.

Just went to registry office. No go of course. At least the registry agent went to bat for me tho. She called them directly and essentially told them to get their shit together.

Currently waiting on a phone call back from the clerk. Anyone care to wager if that phone call comes or not? Lol

They have the conviction expunged from the courts side but the registry system still shows it. I’m going to try again tomorrow and see what happens.

They probably still have to use dial-up for the connection from the registry to the court system

Pray that you never have to try and get a conviction on your DL removed because of a clerical error.

Tried the registries again this morning. No go again. Conviction remains. They called the court house. Clerks told them what we already knew... the conviction is removed and a trial is set for later this year. Registry agent can't do anything because my profile is locked due to conviction outstanding. They told me to call Service Alberta and figure it out. Just called them myself from home. Service Alberta agent says that I have been advised incorrectly, the registry agent should be handling this and there is nothing Service can do on their end. Ball is in registry agents court. But as I said, the profile is locked so their hands are tied. They told me Driver Fitness and Monitoring is not who to call. They don't know who to call, however, they may have some luck with a "Motor Vehicle Specialist" that may be able to override the lockout.

Is this the definition of bureaucratic diarrhea? lol

After the 14 day grace period is up, looks like I'll be on the road with an unregistered trailer. Hopefully early next week it will be resolved.
