Why are these same people not railing on Scheer for telling LGBTQ people to effectively fuck off in 2005? He spoke his mind in front of the House of Commons, and in doing so he basically told my brother that he doesn't deserve to get married and isn't able to have the same rights as other people because he's gay. That's pretty shit.
But yet, and especially so on beyond, we constantly hear about Trudeau's blackface. you&me's comments re: blackface being okay because we aren't vilifying Trudeau is hilariously tone-deaf. It's not because "he's a liberal, and it's okay"; it's because it was 20 years ago. Then again, it's not like the guy did much to atone for his dumbassedness, by the way, outside of reforming immigration policies, encouraging a diverse cabinet, accepting refugees from struggling nations, etc.
And nobody is saying that Trudeau's blackface was totally okay and very cool; most people acknowledge how dumb and racist it was. Dude almost lost his government over it. Who's let him off the hook? The only reason he won is because Scheer was worse than Trudeau in the eyes of many Canadians.
But ya. What about Trudeau, amirite?
