    Default Plumbing Help

I'm wanting to add a barb fitting under my sink to attach a hose to. I've never done much plumbing and just wondering if anyone sees a problem with my plan or has a better/proper way of doing it.

    here is under the sink.

Plan is very simple in that all im going to do is

-drill hole between the black and gray collar.
    -Tap it for NPT thread.
-thread nipple into hole(seal around with silicone)
-attach quarter turn valve to nipple
    -thread barb fitting into valve.

    Thoughts?

The proper way would be to cut in a Tee with a glue in bushing with female pipe thread to screw the nipple in. Looks like it would be a little right to squeeze that in though.

If you have a dishwasher, look how that drain hose is attached.

Or you could just get a wye fitting, about $7.50 at Lowes...

Buy the fitting, but if not, do NOT just use silicone seal. Use whatever that magic PVC fitting glue is.

Wow, whomever installed that cabinet just butchered it for the plumbing, should've been just three clean holes.

Speedog beat me to it. Just get the dishwasher drain pvc part.
Done. Keep it up stream of the p trap I believe is best.

That fitting would be ideal... but since I wont have a permanently Installed hose if the p trap plugs wont it back up through that barb Instead of the sink since there is no valve. Easy fix though to add a valve though.

Other question I have is how exactly would it join the two pipes. The current one looks like compression fittings on other top and bottom and that dishwasher wye is slip fit and meant to be cemented on?

That’s sort of the issue with drains... I’d chop the whole thing off and rebuild it from the wall back up with new P trap and the dishwasher fitting, looks like it would fit between the slip fitting and the trap though... might even be able to just chop it right above the trap and just do the dishwasher fitting and a new slip fitting... easy stuff though. Adult LEGO, dry fit it all, Mark the pipes and glue it all together, work quick though as it drys fast

Don't valve the hose. Just put a rubber cap into it and worm clamp it.
I guess it depends how often it's being used.
    Once a year. Cap
    Once a month. Valve.

The pipe inside the compression fitting is not standard size pipe for a glue on fitting, such as the wye with the barbed dishwasher connection.
