As someone that flies to Seattle twice a month, I'm happy to see this. Good start.

Doesn't matter anymore. They can intercept any encrypted message of any complexity including banking and decode it by brute force with a quantum computer in 1/4 second.

They absolutely cannot. The few working quantum computers have no ability anywhere near that and will not for years, potentially decades.

Regarding Quantum-level decryption - this is a worry more so for the military as secrets today, wont be anymore in 10 years or so. Typically classified as TS/SCI for 40-50 years. What is happening on a national level now, is that all encrypted traffic is being holed up, in anticipation of a decryption process in the near future.

So basically, in 10 years when I'm 50, they'll have access to my 40 year old dick pics.

That sounds like a win to me!

In 2030, they will decrypt your pedo conversations from 10 years prior!!!

Can you imagine that? SURPRISE... ALL YOUR BASE BELONG TO US

Since AI will be the one doing the judging, we should start corrupting them now what's pedo and what's isn't?

Most secrets were encrypted from 56 to 2048 binary bits. 56 bit is trivial even with modern binary computers. 2048 bit would not take more than a hour to crack with brute force 53-bit Sycamore. 53 to the 53rd power every clock cycle is infinitely faster than the two states of 0/1.

Literally the simplest thing to decode for a quantum computer is a brute force code cracker, I am sure they already had the algo completed before the physical computer was finished off.

Its a little bit unfortunate that the laws of quantum mechanics do not allow 64 simultaneous bits. If they could, they could model every atom in the universe simultaneously then compare it to every atom in the next second, and have a true extrapolation of the weather of the universe.

so if searching your phone is unconstitutional, does the USCBP still have the authority to demand you unlock your phone and refuse entry if going into the states?

What exactly do you all have on your phones that's so secret? They could search my phone all they want but they'd get bored very quickly.

it doesn't matter what's on it. I would rather they didn't just go through my phone.

Every single minute erosion of rights is a huge problem, the "I've got nothing to hide so who cares if they do that to me" mentality is both dangerous and wrong for any member of society to take.

They can do searches through your conversation history. And since weed isn't legal in the US if at any point you made reference to smoking or buying cannabis they can bar you entry if border security is feeling overzealous. I think technically they changed their stance on cannabis but it still pops up in the news once in a while people being banned for life from the US over cannabis (and not possession at the border)

They backroom you and your phone where the entire contents are downloaded and sent away for analysis. If you have social media apps, they will put you on a list then (various lists) based on who your friends are on FB.

If some person you haven't talked to in 10 years, but are FB friends, is into serious crime, they will know about but you wont - but now you will be back-roomed more often now as a result of this.

They also have 'thought' police that look at YOUR post history on SM - and then assume which way you are trending - and then place you on a list for that.

Everyone is a suspect now in the eyes of the government. They will make reasons to put you on the various lists they have. Nazi Germany, 1945.

Smarter people have dual boot phones - among other tricks (or a travel phone). I just assume all countries want to see your devices and act accordingly.

Put your shit on a cloud thats not device accessible, and keep nothing of importance in person.

Good question but I'll guess that they still can (for non-Citizen entry) based on some flawed "you don't need to be here so you're totally free to object to this search and walk away" type of logic.

    I really don't know, though.

My buddies in a group chat talk about smoking weed, edibles, pictures of plants.. That alone could get you banned.

I’ve always operated under the principal that the border is the one place you have no rights, which is something we all implicitly accept by crossing.

    Well said.

Its not like the North Korea/South Korea border, but since laws are different on each side one must give up rights to attempt to cross.
