Its hardline connected via Cat5. I found a few folders that we definitely don't need to save, so I dropped the size of the transfer by half. It's grinding away, i guess I'll leave it all day and see what happens. None of it is "mission critical" as we have that stuff backed up already, just a few things that would make life easier to save.
Windows transfers are an absolute bitch with small files because it can't get up to a good speed so its in a constant read, write, read, write state and just takes for ever. Larger files will transfer better and seem like it goes faster.

Its always a good idea to do a disk cleanup and then clean out ALL the temp folders for users and the system before even thinking about backing up or transferring files.

Well I went out for a bit, and dispite it saying "more than 1 day" to go, it is done now. Next hurdle, physically mounting the ssd, as the drive bay is sized for the larger hdd, and the screws that mounted that are in the wrong positions and have the wrong thread pitch.

Do I need some kind of drive caddy thing?

No, just fucking zip tie the thing inside so that its secure. (edit: should add I dont do this for PCs with clear case - looks like shait).

SSD's dont care too much about shock (not indestructible though) and in a desktop, there should be none.

Ssd halfway loose in there, but fornicate it. Fresh install of windows from USB stick was zero hassle. You guys were correct it didn't need any kind of product key. I guess the Microsoft account takes care of that?

Haven't installed a single program, and it's running great. Maybe we I just won't install anything, and it'll run great forever!

Making me think about doing a clean install for my laptop. It's not slow, but maybe it could be faster!
