Default When do you consider evening to begin?

Having a general debate and it seems the answer is different on who you speak too.

I was raised in the sense that evening time starts at 6:00pm but others think its 5:00pm.

    Where do you stand?

    If it’s dark it’s evening.

Supper was 5:30 when I was a kid, and it still is in my family. Supper is the evening meal, therefore, evening starts at 5pm.

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

    5 pm.
4's still considered late afternoon in my books. I never hear anyone say 5 is afternoon still.

5pm to 8pm. But in winter, it's just night.

So I will ask you guys...
How one determines when evening starts, you should wonder when afternoon ends.

It is 5:45 pm in the evening, or afternoon?
If you say afternoon, then I ask you what was Mar like as a father?

Evening is like 7pm for me. between the hours of 5-7 though is a grey-area-no-man's-land.

Only way i can see it mattering is if you told someone to pop by this evening and at 5pm they're on your doorstep.

6pm is evening. 530 might be dinner but if you appeared at that time you'd be run off for interrupting dinner.

Noon is 12-1. Afternoon is 1-5. 5-6 is kind of a no man's land. 6-7 is supper. Evening is 7-9. 9 is night.

How do you people (yeah I said it) live with areas of the day that are "no man's land?" Madness.
