    Default Earplugs for sleeping?

Does anyone else like myself need the room to be 100% quiet when sleeping for you to actually get to sleep.

I have been using those foam egg plugs for about 20 years now to sleep. I used to sleep beside a snorer and thats why I originally started but now my wife listens to podcasts at night and every fucking night I have to tell her to turn it down as above a certain volume on an iphone you can still hear it through the foam ear plugs. Im thinking of buying some of these https://quieton.com/technology/ that do active noise cancelling to see if that helps combat audio noise. I also found some foam earplug brand in the states that does 33dB which seems better than anything I can find in Canada.

Ive never tried the wax type ones either though - maybe they are better at blocking sound.

Earplugs are TOO quiet for me. Many people have at least a tiny amount of Tinnitus, and the only time you hear it is when it's dead silent.

I also don't mind constant noises while I am sleeping, even if they are louder (like a pedestal fan or air conditioner) - as long as they are constant they can be tuned out.

Obviously an extremely subjective subject though, sleep is so important that anything that helps you get more quality sleep is a good thing IMO.

Wax earplugs are usually used for waterproof applications (like sensory deprivation tanks).

Some podcasts are not too bad for sleeping but others like for instance she listens to one called the dollop have some comedian that laughs louder than the constant sound of the podcast. I just dont enjoy listening to talking while trying to sleep.

Lol well I mean it has been 10 years although the podcast thing only started like 2 years ago. I currently get by with earplugs and a pillow over my head.

Hows your wife's sleep? Is it pretty good and restful for her? Sounds like a recipe for insomnia, but hey what do I know?

Get some custom molded sleep plugs made

I had some made ~15yrs ago because of construction and I continued to wear them because I foudn it so nice to have dead silence.
Most hearing clinics make them, like

I use moldex sparkplug earplugs. Buy big boxes from Greggs. I find them the most comfortable to wear for long periods, although I don't wear them at night. Mostly flying.

Active noise cancellation only works on droning noises like a fan or motor. It doesn't take music and make it disappear...
The premise behind it is that:
    1) It picks up a repetitive noise like a fan
    2) It predicts that the fan will continue to run
    3) It inverts the sound waves and plays it through the speaker.
    4) The sound wave from the fan, and the sound wave played by the ANC cancel each other out to effectively nothing.

I’ve been on the earplug train for years. Have effectively hooped myself to sleep without, even on nights without a snoring wife as I need it dead silent. Bit freaky for backcountry camping!

Yeah I find that if I’m away on a business trip I usually can’t sleep without them either however if I smoke some grass I usually don’t need them.

I think it’s pretty shit, a lot of the women I know have terrible sleep unsure why this is. I blame the phone personally. Constantly checking insta/fb/whatsapp can’t be good for your health. Usually I go to bed about 10.30 pop my plugs in and I’m out in 2 mins. Think my wife takes upwards of 30 mins to sleep she usually plays solitaire on her phone for that long

ya i use my watch as an alarm, its no problem. Even a regular alarm works. Ear plugs are good for low key noises, not loud ones

I use "Mack's Pillow Soft Silicone Putty Earplugs" for when I am on nights and need to sleep during the day as I am a super light sleeper. Apparently they are the official earplugs of USA swimming team. They are super comfortable for my ears and work awesome. My only complaint is that you don't get many nights use out of a pair, maybe 4-5 nights?
