Default UCP supporters why you so silent?

Maybe I am just living in an ecochamber on my other social media platforms, but it seems UCP supporters are auspiciously quiet at this time. Are you surprised by the cuts and impact it will have on yourself and your children?

If your other platforms are reddit and twitter than ya, conservatives have long sense left. I'm on beyond, my mostly conservative echo chamber of choice. Also the level of discussion here is heads and shoulders above other places.

No. Cut is minuscule and over 4 years. No where close to doom and gloom of an austerity budget. UCP still can't get budget balanced. Albertans want too much services for what they pay in taxes.

People are always quiet when their team is getting bad press / make mistakes. It sucks being on the defense so that's why you won't hear much defense of this latest UCP stuff on social media comments. Criticizing doesn't take much effort.

Why do you think UCP voters would be upset? Seems like maybe your views are skewing your expectations of what others would be "loud" about.

When the strikes start in February, UCP supporters will speak up. But not the way you think. Like Trump supporters, they won't admit failure, but double down on their support (and denial of reality).

I see some of my O&G colleagues posting stupid shit, typical is "where were you when 100,000 energy Jobs were lost" that kind of stupid stuff. Forgetting that the losses were due to worldwide reseource price drops, and government spared no expense providing help, training, promoting and then buying pipelines, rail cars and industry support. Between provincial and federal help, we are talking $8 to $10 billion was spent on the industry lifeline.

These current cuts and job losses were a petty attack on Alberta citizens by their own public sector hating government. Completely fabricated. And not necessary.

    Socrates was right.

I wouldn't consider myself a UCP supporter (I have equal disdain for all political parties in Canada) but I am definitely on the fiscally conservative side of things.

What I'm trying to understand is why these cuts are occurring? Funding for AHS has increased 1% (against CPI/population growth of ~1.6%) making this a trivial reduction in real money terms. Funding to social services appear to have increased by 7%.

So are the various government services intentionally making cuts to front-line staff to gain media intention and try to draw more funding OR is the budget intentionally misleading in some way?

Also saw this online. Haven't verified it as fact but it seems legit given what I know about unions.

It seems to me a dozen nursing jobs could be saved by cutting down on the cost of the NDP's bed-buddies.

I actually don't have a problem with any of these numbers, you can't pay low wages to the people running a large organization. Ya, sure to the shift supervisor at Walmart $200K a year is Bill Gates kind of rich but in the grand scheme of things it's not.

As for the cuts, well the UCP are doing exactly what they were elected to do. My guess is that JK & friends are intentionally dumping all the shit news in the first two years of their mandate and will reap some fruit in the final two years...right before the next election. People have a pretty short memory overall.

These are Union executives we're talking about. Perhaps I don't fully understand their job roles but I wouldn't compare the demand for whatever skill set they have to that of an executive or even upper-middle management within most large private organizations.

I haven't found Guy Smith's CV online anywhere but from what the main executive states on the AUPE website, their education and experience is basically decades of "activism".

    https://www.aupe.org/about/contact/guy-smith
    https://www.aupe.org/about/contact/jason-heistad

Edit: Here's a basic CV of Jason Heistad - doesn't seem worth like $250k+/year of value to me based on current markets.

My abilities, elected service background, commitment as a current Executive Secretary-Treasurer for two terms, four time AUPE Vice-President and 11 years as a Municipal Town Councillor show that I have the experience to be re-elected the next Executive Secretary- Treasurer.

Social media is designed to be an echo chamber. Yes you are in one.

Maybe this is the right place to ask, but did AHS get a "cut" in its budget, or just less of an increase than they were thinking? Seems like an important distinction.

We're all here still. I don't want to see people lose jobs, but all of you socialist clowns that think government bloat should go unchecked forever because MUH TEACHERS AND MUH NURSES need your heads examined.

How about instead of just handing out tax cut after tax cut to the wealthy and corporations we use that money to maintain our essential services?

Just remember, despite all these cuts the 2019/2020 budget under the UCP has a higher deficit than last years NDP budget (after excluding the rail car butout)

I rest my case. The typical empty head dumbass shitting on essential services which have been running on insufficient budgets for years, despite the FACT that health and education are proven SURE THING investments that pay for themselves, with interest.

Yup. Investing in failure, defunding sure thing investments. The UCP way.

    Defund
    Destroy
