    Default Tow hooks

In the past, I've used a tow hook on an SUV, and even my old G37 coupe to help pull someone out who got stuck in snow... for my new winter car (2012 X1), it didn't come with one in the car.

Instead of coughing up the $75 BMW wants, I thought about getting one of these...

Check the thread pitch and length compared to oem. Material is probably weaker. Avoid dynamic loading. Stand the fuck back.

    *not my professional opinion.

The x1 should have a factory one provided in the tool kit

Haha that's what I figured...I suppose $75 isn't too bad. I wonder if a junk yard would have any, my understanding is it comes with a tool kit in BMWs.

If you have the BMW part number for it, check eBay.

I picked one up from a junkyard a while back for $20.

Those towpoints are useless fyi. Bmw says straight level pull no shock loads. Most tow operators have learned the hard way to leave it in the glovebox and use wheels/ control arms or you'll have a car rolling away.

I honestly just need it if my wife gets stuck in snow, to pull her out. It's quite handy to have, when I had my G37x coupe, I was able to help out a guy stuck parked uphill on an icy slope, I was parked a ways back from him, just attached everything and pulled him back until he could turn his wheels to drive onto the road.

I did, they're around 40-45 bucks but takes about a month shipping, not worth the savings for me.

Maybe I'll check out princess auto.
