I have only had positive experiences with breeders in the past (2 Old English Sheepdogs, 2 Portuguese Water Dogs, 1 English Bulldog) so definitely not against that route, nor adoption.. it just seems like a lot of unknowns for some of the mixed breeds.. size.. temperament.. shedding... etc. While Kijiji isnt a great place to buy a dog, it does show a wide variety of breeds to look up.

Ours does not drool unless she is about to be fed.

Perfect energy level. Happy to sleep all day / play at the dog park for 1-2 hours

I have a labradoodle. It can definitely be a hit or miss with breeders and prices. He does not shed and does not bother my allergies.

We ended up paying 1500. Which was definitely on the lower side compared to other breeders (my cousin also bought a labradoodle from this breeder after us). He is 40 lbs and a very good dog. He comes to work with me and hangs out in my office so he is very socialized and calm. He trains very easily (apartment trained) and he is crate trained. Taking him to work definitely keeps his energy down. But if I am busy and I can't take him to work, usually a 45 minute walk in the morning and then in his cage for the day and he is perfectly content until I am home from work.

A lot of people generalize doodles but I really think they are just like any other dog and that if they misbehave, it all comes down to the training and stimulation that they receive. If the dog is never taken out for walks or stimulated, of course they will misbehave and not have proper obedience.

just a note that a 'doodle' does not guarantee no shedding. Friends paid top dollar for a labradoodle and it sheds more then my husky-mutt mix and is not hypoallergenic

Do the world a favor and get a rescue. Nature vs Nuture, i'll bet on nuture when it comes to pooches

Just get a robot dog, no mess, no vet bills and when you go on vacation you can either set one up in sentry mode (I assume they would have that mode) or throw it in the closet.

I'm far from a dog guy but always seemed to have one at all points in my life. Never got one as a puppy but always took one in from a friend that would have to get rid of him otherwise. One breed that really stood out for me was the vizla. Absolute amazing dog. Super short hair with no undercoat so next to no shedding. Enough energy to keep up with any breed but is just as happy curled up on the couch for cuddles. Not alot of known health issues. Not yappy at all unless trained to be and there hella loyal and play well with others.

Only thing is they dont like is the cold due to lack of hair. They are mainly a chestnut color but there are gray,red, and black variations out there.

Dogs are so resilient. Those India videos where they're all maggot infested with their face half eaten off and then they make an amazing recovery.

The GF and I volunteer there - the screening process is incredibly stringent, and they have more volunteer applicants than they know what to do with (unless something has changed). It's a well run place worthy of people's donations IMO. We were just dog walkers but there are lots of other positions. I think some of the jobs are basically just to socialize puppies and kittens haha - those are the most popular. They have pretty good obeisance/manners classes there too.

Might be an odd suggestion, but have you considered a greyhound? Super-short coat, medium-large (more like just long), and apparently when they're not blasting around outside at 1000mph they're lazy as fuck and wont tear up the house. Never had one, just heard good things.

Can't comment on drooling and/or farting. Don't feed it beans?

farting is generally from a really bad diet or a dog that has some issues with the food being fed.

we've fed our dog GOOD quality kibble and raw types and little to no farting. If our dog does.. you'll know but its very very seldom.

Diet is key for ANY dog and really its up to your dog to let you know how they are doing.

I noticed the same thing. Switched our dog from acana to carnivora raw and no more stinky farts.

However, Our main reason of switching was because he was super itchy and the raw food cleared that up.
