O'Toole won on the 3rd ballet. Lewis almost made it on to the 3rd ballet

Winning on the third ballot is not really a great indication of broad based strength or the ability to inspire voters. I am concerned that this is shades of Ed Stelmach. Conservatives are already polling a long way behind the Liberals. Erin O'Toole will need to do a lot of work through the next two years to convince a majority of Canadians that he personally is someone worth voting FOR, as opposed to just telling people to vote against Justin Trudeau.

I don’t think any of the people running for the conservative leadership had a chance at a majority. I think O’Toole May have a chance at a minority, but it is small.

This is the exact same thought I had when I saw the news this morning. Almost seems destined to fail, hope I'm wrong.

Isn't O'Toole's campaign basically a blue MAGA hat?

Surprised the hell out of me that it was this close. Thought McKay had more traction than that.

Cbc also says he used to brand himself as a social progressive before this leadership campaign. That's either quietly positive or disturbing, depending on your personal views.

Seems a bit cynical at least to be so malleable.

He won, so he definitely threw out the right bones to the right groups.

McKay didn't play that game and lost.

I’m surprised Mackay didn’t win, but I think this is the best outcome personally.

I like that o toole has a bit of a mouth, we need someone who will call out the Liberal BS and speak more relatably to Canadians. Neither Mackay nor Scheer fit that Bill.

The beat way to beat the Liberals is to keep hitting on them being completely out of touch with the needs and wants of everyday Canadians.

This will make it harder to win Atlantic Canadian seats, but it’s Ontario and Quebec seats we need anyway.
