Will keep an eye out. Who took the photo at chinook? Sucks having a bike stolen. Always wonder how I would react if confronted with the guy that stole my bike.

Did they break into the garage to steal it or was it left open? Makes me worried about the window I have into mine, maybe I should get some blinds...

for people like me who doesnt know what it looks like stock, here's a pic, so you can pick out a few differences to help identify its this specific bike.

easiest looks like the blue pedals and smaller blue front sprocket, and i guess the handlebars too, they're black stock.

I posted last night, but my phone was dying and it must not have gone through. So sorry. I'm 99% sure I saw this bike last night coming home from the flames game it was about 11:05, I was travelling on Glenmore West and went on the overpass to go south on 14th Street. On the overpasses there is a homeless guy struggling with his shopping cart and what really look like this bike on top of it. I remember blue handlebars that's what it was that made me think it was this one. he also did look like the homeless guy from the LRT station all the while I was trying to avoid the massive pothole mid overpass. I did a loop-back and he was gone. He was travelling north on the path there and was probably going to set up camp in the construction site there overnight would be what I would imagine. Again, sorry my post didn't go through last night

Thanks for the note - Michelle was out for hours yesterday scouting train stations. I’ll be doing the same thing once I’m back in town - any info is greatly appreciated.

When I get to loop around after my battery had died I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do if he was still there figured I would offer to buy it off of him

I'd focus sw obviously, and remember those new bus shelters are heated too

Who spotted the bike with the thief asleep and didn't grab it?! I will keep my eyes open on my daily commute, definitely a noticeable bike.

i wouldnt have, i'd call the cops or something, but i am not gonna put myself in the way of personal harm for an object, especially when its not even mine.... never know what some of those crackheads will do, they don't have anything to lose...

Do you have a VIN number for it? I'll keep an eye out for it while at work.

That would be a really tough decision not to just (attempt to) take the bike, but definitely an accurate statement that we have way more to lose than they do. Very frustrating.

Bike has been spotted with a crackhead at McDonalds on 17th Ave downtown. It's definitely hanging around the transient community.

I went to all the local shelters to take a peek, but staff has advised they don't allow bikes inside, and that the homeless typically stash them if they're coming in for the night.

Any tips on where street sleepers might stash their rides?

They used to stash their bikes near east village when I lived downtown, under the bridge.

    Quick update:

'fred' on kijiji is selling stolen bikes. He gives a slightly different description than the actual bike and tries to fire sale it when you show up and realize its different.

This is the Kijiji account - apparently known for hawking stolen bikes:

    https://www.kijiji.ca/o-profile/1014186747/listings/1

Looks like someone's TREK is for sale as well.

These bums work as a team. They arranged a meet-up at Chicken on the Way, with a few of them on foot in the alley and two more driving a 90s blue chev with the bike in the bed. They got the vibe that it was heat, so one of them signaled to the truck and it fled. I got the plate and followed until they pulled over. One bum grabbed the bike and rode off while the other bum in the truck sped away. I followed the bum/bike until we got to a cul-de-sac @ 23ave and 7st NW. I pussed out and didn't pursue on foot - cops arrived shortly later but couldn't find him. I gave them the plate # and this entertaining story but that's it.

    Stay safe out there kids!

    Update:

CPS setup a sting and ended up catching this guy. They recovered ~50 bikes. We got the Kona back last week - a few parts had been changed but it was mostly intact. Huge shoutout to Calgary Police!
