Your understanding is correct. At work, the dude with the Volt is always asking for the charger so he doesn't have to run his generator on the way home. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I would have major anxiety travelling in this country in a PHEV. That said I would have no issues using one in the city as my daily. I'm just waiting for one that isn't a Tesla, doesn't look like ass, or cost as much as an exotic. In the meantime I'm perfectly happy enjoying the golden age of ICE vehicles as a lot of the new engines from some manufacturers are fantastic.
I’m getting the sense that you don’t know what a PHEV isThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Isn't it just BEV? I can't keep up with the acronyms. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I do but I am also lazy when it comes to acronyms. I'm personally not overly interested in hybrids unless it's NSX style or thoe 48V generator types that are used to help eliminate turbo lag. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Oh I agree. I was just disagreeing with the fact that it's just hauling batteries on the highway. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

So an Internal Combustion Engine on one axle with a motor generator unit to boost power and generate energy. On the other axle a second motor generator to give the vehicle an electronic AWD system. A vehicle that can be run in different modes from maximum power hybrid mode, electric only mode, or charge hold mode... Also a plug to charge up the batteries at home or a remote charging station. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
For the next 5 years at least, I would be way more comfortable leaving home with PHEV than BEV since gas stations out number chargers by a lot and PHEV has slightly more range than ICE.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The only downside of PHEV is complexity and have 2 drive trains = 2x more likelihood of issues.
Have PHEV been sold in quantities large enough to generate any long term reliability stats? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I assume they'd be pretty similar to regular hybrids? And aren't those pretty decent? I guess that's two big assumptions. I mean, taxi companies have been using hybrid prius and campry models for years.

Last Vegas trip I think I counted a handful of old hybrid escapes. Like 15 years old lol.

Most hybrids still uses air cooled NIMH from the 90s. Tried and true as you are not driving with them, they only assist. And there are a lot of reconditioned parts in the long run. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
PHEV run on Li-Ion battery packs and requires a lot of temperature management to keep them from degrading, especially in cold weather.

It's now a budget Koenigsegg! So it kind of behaves like a CVT, but it is not one. As previously mentioned, the fact that the engine only drives the wheels directly at higher speeds is similar to the Koenigsegg Regera.
