Just randomly watched a YT vid last night about a guy who went into commercial flying from airforce in the States. He flashed a few graphs up showing the pay at about $120,000 for FO on 737 and close to $300,000 for a senior captain on a widebody. So it seems a lot better down there pay wise.

That should cause an outflux of pilots from here if its that bad of a difference.

120k USD (~160k CAD) is wow money , for right seat in Canada.

It would but it’s massively hard to immigrate to the States, as pilots aren’t considered an in demand profession or whatever you need.

Plus you have to live in the States, and that’s a big turn off to some people.

Flight instructor rating is another 10K on top of your CPL, just FYI.

And it pays shit, so be prepared for that. And you’ll almost die a lot lol.

But yeah seems like instructors are moving up as soon as they hit 1000 hours or so, into a King Air, PC12 or a regional.

Maybe if you work for like sunwing or something. ~160k CAD is easily attainable at Air Canada for right seat of the A320 (with no overtime either)

Basically. Flight instructors usually have about 200-230 hours before they started teaching people. There’s different classes of instructors, but they can start that low.

There ARE good instructors. But they’re rare. I’d be willing to bet I was a much better pilot at 500 hours than some of my instructors at 1500.

I read up on this last week. TLDR it’s very difficult in most times.

Basically, when US has shortage, they’ll issue visas for pilots. If they don’t there’s no easy direct way down there unless you have a right to work there. Once you make it, you grind regional flights for poverty wages for a couple years because hours aren’t transferrable. Guys living on food stamps poverty. Then get a job at a real named airline, and within 3 years you’re already making more than WJ max salary. Tops out at 350k or so, with your choice of routes, and 15 day breaks in between. Super cushy.

The other way is to get visa as a flight instructor. It’s no poverty, but it’s a decade long grind to get hours. Work on green card, then follow above path. On top of all this, get a private jet gig and you’re rolling. 500k to 1m with access to your boss’s properties because rich people treat their pilots like family.

Pilots here can let me know if that sounds right.

Ahh interesting, thanks for the info. Was curious if it's a simple matter but doesn't sound like it unless you want to commit to living in the States and money down the line.
