Juuuuust enough snow overnight and today to divert all plows back to priority 1 routes for a while. So if yours area was waiting on the plow to return, it'll be delayed.

Ah well, snows falling slowly, so shouldn't be a big issue. Nice weather for snowmen.

Some guy in my neighborhood is burning cardboard and wrapping paper on his snow bank in an effort to melt the snow...fucking stinks
    Sorry, don't have a fireplace.
The rotisserie chicken will go on this afternoon. The wrapping paper turpenes really flavour the skin.

Actually doesn't work well. Takes a lot of heat and energy to melt snow or ice. Had to tiger torch an ice dam behind garage last year and took a whole tank of Propane and hours.
I figured it was hotter than that and would take 30 min.
Ended up heating a water path and waited a few days to bust it up with an ice pick.
    Next time chainsaw.

    But so much fun.

I borrowed some kindof handheld jackhammer thing from my brother for clearing ice from my alley a while back. Not sure what that set him back but it was very effective. Had to be careful though as it would break concrete.

Every year I end up with a puddle behind the garage where a tree blocks the sun from melting the alley.
I find that running water works the best for melting the ice Been.using an extra eheim 1262 pump for.years as I work with aquariums. This pump can run dry for an exceptional amount of time.before overheating, and.just use the running water to carve a channel in the alley

    Good idea.

Also might be PM'ing you if you know pumps. Looking for a decent one for an air 2 water intercooler setup. Has to be 12v though.

Headed back to Edmonton today, right when I got to Olds, deep fog/blowing snow, couldn't see shit in front of me, that was a sketch and scary 20 mins passing through there.

Wow, that's rare. It's usually toads falling from the sky and 3 Horsemen Of The Apocalypse between Innisfail and Bowden.

I'm curious about this as well and how much it costs to run and how effective it is.

I knew a guy that had one in Edmonton. They are a disaster. Very expensive to run + you will have a poor install with leaking problems + you will get future leaking problems with shifting/heaving and cracked concrete.

It seems pretty damn wasteful. My biggest question has always been about where the water goes. Does it all run off and make a giant skating rink at the end of your driveway/sidewalk? Does it freeze the water in a nice sheet when it's too cold for it to be effective?

The biggest mistake made with these, is not running glycol on both sides. They typically will have heat exchanger with water on one side and glycol for the outdoor loop on the other side. Something happens on the hot water side, below zero glycol starts circulating through the
heat exchanger and then freezes the water side, thus bursting, draining and making a nice mess in the mechanical room. I've seen this happen on residential and large commercial systems multiple times. It also takes a lot of boiler capacity to make it work, you tend not to get puddles or run off when its really cold, most of the
ice and snow disappears through sublimation.

Yeah it was nuts. Luckily highway wasn't jam packed when I started heading back around noon. Def had my butt clenched while I was in the fog in that area. Past that area there was fog but still had visibility ahead at least. Didn't help there was a few older folks driving 80 with four ways on in the fog. I'm gonna pull my dashcam footage to review

My main entertainment is watching everyone get stuck outside in the ruts and deep snow outside my house.
Estimated above 30 people have gotten stuck.
Best drivers are actually the delivery guys. They get stuck but can manoeuvre out in a few minutes.
