I drove my truck 60km last night and I couldn’t get the water temp higher than 78°C (first thermostat opening temp) even after it was plugged in and I have a proper winter front. Damn diesel.
My "insulated" garage is saying -20 inside lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
A bit off topic but anyone's home thermostat reading lower than it should? We keep our house at 22 and this morning it said 21... it's almost as if it's so cold that the furnace can't keep up, the best it can do is 21.
What type of thermostat? We have a old mercury one (too lazy to upgrade atm) and I had to pull the cover and adjust the wheel behind it.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Man, that is way too cold in Edmonton haha - I have never experienced -40 sans wind chill.
I am so glad I have a garage now - outdoor thermometer says -31C, garage thermometer says -5.5C the next morning. It's detached but I guess it's insulated pretty well. I bought some WiFi controlled plug-ins to run block heaters but I am pretty sure I don't need them if the coldest it will ever get is -6C or so.
Mine hardly got above 70 after 35 minute commute. However it was down deerfoot and it was at a good pace. I noticed the steering was stiffer as I pulled into the McD's drive through, and my outside temp said it was -34.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Check your filter. We replaced out filter a month ago and has the same problem yesterday, house not heating up the way it should. Pulled the filter this morning and it's pretty much plugged up with gunk, furnace running more means filter doing more work and dirty filter means restricted airflow which means furnace can tolerate effeciently. With no filter, the house warmed up very quickly, off to get a couple of new filters. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The last time I experienced -40 is driving to Edmonton in the 90s. It was so cold, my car at the time (Mazda 323) threw an oil light on the highway. Went to the gas station after another 10 mins of driving praying it won't die, bought oil, filled it and it dumped right out onto the ground. Only reasonable explanation is that the cold contracted the oil pan enough that it's not holding oil in at all. Not wanting to get stuck at the gas station 50km outside Edmonton, I said fuck it, engine treated with Slick 50 so it'll survive. As stupid as that thought was in -40 and a small ass coat, it did. Next day it warmed up to -20 and it took on oil fine and started up fine. That engine lasted another 150,000km or so till the transmission went. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

That is pretty damn cold! If the oil wasn't synthetic it probably wasn't lubricating anything anyway haha. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Check furnace filter. This happened to me, filter was a few months old and had a decent layer of dust built up.. I live in a new area so there's seemingly alot of dust from the surrounding construction. Changed it and it was good again, more (and better) airflow. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It’s just under normal operating temperature after driving for 10min. Not sure what you are reading lol. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Which is what people have been saying? Yet you replied that you are 'toasty warm'.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The other thing to try (if applicable) if you don't get good airflow is to stop using the crazy high MERV filters that many furnaces aren't designed for. They are very restrictive. All most people need is just the dust filters with super high airflow. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I had to turn off my lights this morning on the BMW to get it to start
The Mazda I had to boost it for the wife, she doesn't drive it enough but decided to drive our daughter and friend to school this morning
No garage
