We got hit in 2016 as well, this is way, way worse in terms of severity. The only question is how big of an area got hit. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Best to all you folks that got hit. I know I would be crushed.
Got super lucky where I am apparently.

SW here, tons of rain but no noticeable hail. I’m close enough to aspen that the storm avoided me.
The pictures of the damage on reddit are pretty crazy. Looks like there were a couple planes seeding over but not sure if it made much of a difference unless it would have been bigger? Deepest NW just rain.
It seems like Calgary can’t catch a break and I feel bad for all the people who have suffered damage to their homes, vehicles and property.
I do have to question the building practices in the city. I’ve never seen a city with so many vinyl sided houses. Time to change the building codes?
^ I do not understand why insurance does not do a better job of incentivizing hail resistant construction.
Case in point, we just had our roof done and I contacted Intact - they offered something like a one time, 100$ rebate on what would have been a 2000$ extra cost for hail resistant roof.
Yup, when we got hit in 2016 I checked to see if there was any program to incentivise hail-resistant shingles. They offered zero dollars up front and a zero dollar decrease in premiums. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Why would they incentivize it? They won't profit from it lol.
You make claim, they raise your premiums anyways.
Hell, your premiums get raised based in area you live in even if you are claimless.
You do your due diligence, they don't care.
Spent $25k on a hail resistant roof like 5 years ago. Got offered nothing but I did it anyway. Last year they finally did a survey since they are doing huge increase and they did a symbolic $50 off for the year. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But this year's increase double that discount easily.
My absolutely beautiful mint Crown Vic got rekt by hail and water in Bridgeland
Zero hail at Spec R (Centre and Barlow) where my truck was parked. The storm split quite weirdly. I have about 15 trucks scattered around the city and Airdrie for work to go check on, my trailer west of Airdrie and my place in Coventry still.
They raise their rates, people switch over. The silly thing is that paying an extra 2k for eg. could save the company 10k. But im sure their statisticians have figured out that its not worth it - given the odds apparently. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
