Looks like I was sorta wrong. A lot of the backcountry campgrounds ARE closed, but not all of them. I guess the few that opened were swamped with reservations. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

BC parks have a cool availability calendar for their provincial camping. I wish Alberta had this. Sometimes I know where I want to go, and will adjust my schedule to fit the available dates. It's really difficult to tease this information out of the reservealebrtaparks website.

They're closed due to season, not cause of covid. Aster lake has ~200 cm of snow, for example and doesn't 'open' till June 24. Elbow Lake - June 15 (day the gate opens), etcThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Pretty easy to do. Put in your location into the 'location', dont put dates, hit Availability tab in the 'details; availability; photos' sectionThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Camped at Gull Lake this weekend. Fri and sat nice and wacked a couple walleye for dinner
Wow shows what I know about anything. I feel like that availability calendar thing on the ABparks is still less handy than the BC one, but it's there anyway. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
BC parks, shows availability for each site individually, so you can see at a glance if you will need to move sites. AB site shows if any site is available those dates, but you may have to move campsites each night.
Details details, I know, but it's an extra step.

Ah didnt realise that, that is annoying. I screwed up my July long booking so have to move sites on the sunday...This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Example, Beauvaise lake, it shows availability August 2-6, but if you select those dates, there's no single site that's open. You'd have to move site literally every single morning to stay all those dates.

I need to get my shit together and find some crown land spots. Probably want to go scouting that without the trailer one day before I load up the family and end up stuck somewhere. I have ideas, but google earth is only so helpful.

Had a booking for a 6 day kayaking trip with 4 of my best friends on the Broken Islands Group cancelled. Booked 6 months ago.
To say that I'm choked is an understatement, but it was expected. This whole situation has simply become insanity.
Less exciting trip this weekend to Little Bow. Friday to Sunday.

Going to Dinosaur PP this weekend. Weather says 28 Friday and Saturday. Looking forward to it.
Oddly, every single person I've told thinks that its beside Drumheller.
Well, just down the river from there....

Calgary is closer to Drumheller than Dinosaur PP is, lol. Everyone keeps asking why we're going with Royal Tyrell being closed. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
