small towns will appreciate your business.

Just don't show up with a cube van and buy all our toilet paper...

Camping's the ultimate social distancing - luckily there's a lot of unserviced sites where you can just go... I'd be out there if I could. May still go yet.

    Winter camping spots are closed.

Our government hard at work?!?! Pretty sure this is the ultimate social distancing they should be promoting...

Did you miss the part before Covid where they gave the finger to AB Parks?

Still as far as social distancing, you can't beat camping... Most campgrounds you'd only have outhouses as communal areas - that's pretty easy to manage contact.

They just seem bound and determined to make this as bad as possible for everyone...

I can spend a week in a crowded campground and not get within 6 feet of anyone outside my family.

That's the whole idea - you'd want to encourage this especially if the people are from higher density areas.

It would make more sense to open the parks now and waive fees except for firewood and hookups.

I don't need firewood or hookups, just an outhouse. Well, I guess that's once it's summer. I woukd want 15 amp electric if it's winter.

Well guys, it's getting to where I would have been making my summer reservations in both Alberta and BC. So here's the current status of provincial parks camping in both places:

    BC Parks Response to COVID-19

For the health and safety of BC Parks visitors, employees, park contractors, volunteers and partners, effective immediately, BC Parks is temporarily suspending services and closing facilities in most provincial parks.
We are monitoring the COVID-19 outbreak closely and following recommendations set out by the Provincial Health Authority. Reservations from March 20, 2020 until April 30, 2020 will be cancelled and fully refunded automatically; an additional email will be sent to affected reservation holders in the coming days. Given the volume of cancellations, please allow 7-10 days for your cancellation and refund to be processed.

The Discover Camping reservation system will be suspended for all new reservations during this period of closure. When the closure has been lifted and facilities reopened, public notification will be posted.

Please check www.bcparks.ca for the ongoing updates and information.

    Camping Updates
    Group Camping
Online reservations for group camping did not launch March 24. Group camping reservations are delayed until further notice to align with Alberta Health Services COVID-19 guidelines.

    Individual, Backcountry and Comfort Camping
Online reservations for comfort, backcountry and individual campsites for the summer season can still be booked at Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca. We will continue to assess COVID-19 impacts to the camping season and refund customer online reservations and waive cancelation fees, as necessary up to and including April 30. To receive a penalty-free refund, please do not cancel or change reservations online. Please contact the Alberta Parks Call Centre at 1-877-537-2757.

    Winter Camping
As of March 19, winter camping in Alberta’s provincial parks is closed to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Bookings for winter campsites that begin after March 19 will be cancelled up to and including April 30 and customers notified via the online reservation system or by phone. Refunds, including the reservation fee will be issued.
So, you CAN book individual campsites at Alberta Parks, and as of right now, they are booking as far out as June 22 arrival.

Ya i'm booked into lower lake for June, but anticipating it will be cancelled

Had to laugh a little bit about Nixon's "we trust albertans and how they love the land when these facilities are closed". Turns out people cant help themselves but shit and leave garbage/tampons everywhere.. Its gonna be a disaster closing all those PRAs

So far I have only booked a two week trip in August in BC. Hoping everything is dealt with by then. I will start booking some trips for July/Sept when I can, but I don't think I am going to book anything for May/June this year just because I don't want to deal with cancelling if needed.

I'm so conflicted about booking Alberta camping for end of June. I'm not worried that I will have any trouble getting a refund if it's remains closed, but everything these days feels so uncertain.

I had zero problems getting refunds in the past from them, it was a breeze. I'd do it.

Eh, I'm going to try to relax. My first-choice camping locations aren't reservable anyway, so if camping is allowed, I'll aim for those places. If it's not, not, I guess.
Work and skid summer camp uncertainty means I can't really be planning very far ahead.
