Just a heads up that the Transcanada around Golden is reportedly going to be closed for up to 15 weeks in Summer this year.

I cant find any details of dates for this closure but its really going to throw a wrench in my travel plans - highway 3 is quite slow.
"Twenty-four-hour closures will be permitted only from April 1 to May 15, and Sept. 15 to Nov. 30."

    https://calgaryherald.com/news/local...hrough-rockies

They wont close it in summer months

Also edit; no way nelson to van is 4 hours. try double.

Anyone get banff bookings? sounds like the system was its normal level of hot garbage

and it feels like another double with all the ups and downs, speed up and slow downs. We did it this year towing a tiny 8 foot tent trailer, and would probably never do it again. Rather drive north and camp near revvy, or something mid way then do it again in summer traffic.

I did enough long driving days last summer. Going to keep my trips shorter this year. If you want a nice long day of pure hills, try Revelstoke (blanket creek) to Pemberton (nairn falls). It's all big hills after lunchtime.

ive only got estimates in there because I dont want to take highway 3 if at all possible unless transcanada is closed. adds 4 hours to get to vancouver. Nelson to vancouver time is because its 4 hours kelowna to vancouver and I added nelson to it but didnt change my driving times.

Why wouldn't you just go to 93 and radium?

I dont know where the road it closed. Seems they are doing alot of work. However we are thinking of leaving on Canada Day now and I doubt federal workers would would on a public holiday.
    @ExtraSlow

Do you know in the US what is considered a Trailer and what is considered an RV, because in some of the campsites we are looking at a Trailer cant be longer than 21' (our camper is 23') but an RV can be up to 25', im guessing an RV is driveable and trailer is not?

No closures during the summer season. Don't worry about that.

Honestly guys, you are probably wasting your money on something like that unless its for tending a battery over the winter.

If you want something to keep you topped up (and depending on your usage) a 100w minimum would be where i would start. Kits can be had for just a little more money if you shop around. Full kits go on amazon for $150 all day long.

I very much agree with this. This particular kit from experience (Brother in law has two of these) loses about 15-20% efficiency on transfer which makes one panel really only decent for a top up on any parasitic draw you might have. Considering you can get a good 100w kit for about $120-$140 on amazon with a good charge controller this kit solo becomes less desirable.

I will point out however that this comes with a shit load of accessories and is built really well. If you getting 2 or 3 of these i think it makes a lot more sense and isn't a bad investment.

I could never convince myself that I'd be able to stop carrying a generator. And if you are carrying a generator, why spend a few hundred bucks on something else?

If I felt like I was keeping a trailer for a few years, maybe some good roof mounted panels would make sense. But I'm selling the current trailer August 1.

Question: Is there a place that you can get the Alberta Park maps for the PLUZs and Camping areas? I know that for example, at the Waiperous entrance I can get the Waiperous map, but I'd like to pick up maps to plan out trips before actually going.

I can do it online, I know, but I like having the hard copy anyway.

Possibly at any of the map stores that are left.

Probably at any of the "Alberta environment and parks" offices. There are two in Calgary I believe.
