I like to be disconnected from everything as well, but my wife works remote, which allows us to be much more flexible with the amount of camping we can do. So even though it’s frustrating to be limited to sites with good reception, we can go camping much more often.

For sure. I will be "work from home" for a few of my camping days this summer. I would have to camp much less if I couldn't.

Doing my first solo hike tomorrow. Jewel bay on Barrier lake. A bit over packed, but the weather is going to be kinda a bit of everything so I am a bit over packed

Thanks for the offer but I'm sort of a busy guy these days. Let's plan for a Manyberries badlands day trip as well as some oval racing out at Drumheller.

Yeah I work in an operations role and need to be available for emergencies so 4 days with 0 reception at Lower Lake is a no-go unfortunately. I can make it work if really needed but it requires my backup colleague to commit to not being away and don’t want to call in a favour yet (will save those for international trips)

Anyone been to Fallen Timber South and can comment on the hiking/scenery situation?

I'll be camping there and the website below says there's hiking but I'm wondering what type of hiking to expect? From what I've gathered, it's mostly an ATV area so I'm not sure if I'll be disappointed by the quality of "hiking". How does it compare to hiking around Banff and Canmore?

If you like trees, cutblocks and OHVs, you'll love it

Pretty much have to head into the Ghost Valley (down the bighill) for actual hiking objectives (Blackrock is the only real major one i can think of, Devils' head, etc), and a lot of them require a half decent vehicle to get close enough to be a legitimate attempt. if looking for actual hiking, id give it a pass and look somewhere like Abraham Lake area, or down south

That being said, the Red Rock Sawmills guys run a good campground, plus all you can burn firewood is always a treat

    Well, I came back alive!
Had some rain early Wednesday morning. Tent kept me dry. Even got to enjoy some wine, smoke, and Hemmingway.

Got an email this afternoon telling us that our reservation at Two Jack is being cancelled, apparently they are not ready to open yet. Now we scrambling to find a spot for the end of the month and it doesn’t look like anything is a available in the areas we wanted to go to.

So did I, called 2 weeks ago and I was told everything was on track to re-open, so I didn’t bother looking for another site to reserve.

Anyone, want to share a site, I’ll bring tequila, lots of it!

Be a little more driving, but there are sites still available on reservealbertaparks. Good luck bud.

Had a nice weekend at Lower Lakes, lots of bears around according to bear shit everywhere, but we seemed to be the only team that didnt see them. I'd say ~30% of sites were empty, even though showing fully booked..

Has anyone been up to fallen/burnt timber, is it still relatively quiet in terms of the number of people who go there. I know there is the dirt bike and quad crowds, but as a kid I remember it being less busy...

The family and I went to Aspen Crossing campground this past weekend. Nice camp site and great for the kids to bike around the site. We were able to order food from the tavern and have it delivered to our camp site. Nothing like ordering Wings and more beer. They had some fathers day festivities that were enjoyable. Had water/power/sewer.
