We are not a country. This is becoming more and more clear.

Relevant camping update. Chinook PRA is outstanding. Longer review coming next week when I get home, sober up, and have wifi.

Was a bit of a zoo there on saturday at the lake, but the proximity to 'things to do' is pretty unparalleled in my mind, could do something new every day for a week easily. PLus catch 6" rainbow trout in the lake haha.
I'll be trying hard to get a lake site next year. Your site looked ok other then having all the day use folks near it on the saturday. The upper loop was super quiet which was nice.

where'd you dump and get water? We did lundbreck on the way (plus Oldman brewery is great), and then dumped at Blairmore on the way back.

I fill and dump at my storage in Balzac. Don't find the weight changes the towing experience much, and saves me time on vacation.

Found it over lunch, again not sure how often they have wood, but where the bins are in the pic is where they stack them.

Just bought 3 bags of spruce from a guy on Kijiji in Temple. 25 bucks for 3 not too bad. Would have bought 6 but my C30 is kinda small so...

Ugh you're gonna make me go to my car downstairs, isn't the price scintillating enough? 3 bags 25 dollars. $8.33 (repeating obviously) per bag.

Hah, yeah, those are reasonably sized bags. If that's decently dry that's an okay deal. You know I just have to hassle you about this.

Nice, honestly I'm too much of an opportunist. Plus driving to Airdrie is even worse than driving to the NE

Official Chinook PRA review (with pics).
First visit to this location of my life, I think up until recently it was not reserve-able.
Ok, this place is only 5 minutes off pavement in the Crowsnest Pass region. Even pulling a trailer, it's no more than 3 hours from Cowtown.

Located on Chinook (Formerly Allison) Lake, which has nice kids fishing for small rainbow trouts if you bring live worms for bait. There's a trail around the lake that kids can enjoy. There's longer trails I'm told, but we don't go far. I saw some folks with mountain bikes too, but not sure where they take those. Pretty Mountains in three directions, a kids beach, and an area to launch canoes or fishing boats.

Sites are all well treed and reasonably spaced. You won't have trouble with your neighbors. No services in any loops. Here was c-74:

    IMG_20200626_183253670_HDR.jpg

Loop intel: Loop A and B are up on the hill, and loop C is down a very steep hill beside the lake. Loop A has the smallest sites, mainly for car-camping and tents. Loop B is better for trailers and RV's, some really huge pull-through sites there. Loop C, as mentioned, is by the lake and day-use area. That means you get quite a bit of day-use traffic on weekends or holidays, but you can walk to the lake to fish or whatever. It's a long way from A and B to the lake. Like truly, if you have kids, you'll end up driving, which is tough if you drink, so be warned.

When you go, before you drive down that big hill, at the turn for loops A and B, put your truck into 1st gear (or even 4low) for engine braking, and take your time going down that hill. And when it's time to come back up, use 4Low if your vehicle has it.

Anywhoo, good campground, you should check it out.

Hard to say. I don't have an angle on either, and I've never been down 19th with my trailer. However it has a hairpin at the bottom and washboard that 19th lacks, so I'm sure 19th is less challenging.

I have personally seen 2 trucks hit the rocks at bottom right at the turn because they are going too fast. That washboard makes the trailer brakes useless. I have also seen several bikers go flying off there as well.

There is actually a great trail to the right of the beach. Follow it around the lake to the weir the head the direction of the spill way. I take the bike down that direction and it's a great ride. There is some great views and a few surprises that I won't spoil. FYI that spillway is slippery as shit when wet and sliding down it is next level stupid (I always see kids playing by it). A few years ago two clowns got evacuated after sliding down it into the rocks and tree chunks at the bottom. Don't know if they did it on purpose but one was next level messed up impaled with branches.

Hey, anyone been out to Cottonwood Campground by the Oldman River near Pincher Creek?

Just wondering if I can fill up the trailer with water at the campground or do I have to go to Castleview up the road. There are taps all over the campground but we usually fill up at the dump stations and there is no dump station there. Sometimes the taps are far off the road and would be hard to fill up unless you had a ridiculously long hose.

    TIA

If you head down 22, get water at Lundbreck and beer at the Oldman Brewing. Good beer and well priced!
