Question Westjet dreamliner flights for the non-baller

    Heyo,

Booking more flights and it seems as though I'll be on the Dreamliner for the first time. For anyone here that has been on these flights, any truth to "the first 5 rows behind premium economy have more leg room and pitch" as reviewed on seatguru? https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/We...eing_787-9.php

WJ incidentally does charge more for those seats, but doesn't acknowledge the difference anywhere on their site from what I can see. Just curious if it's worth taking $200 out of the beer budget to upgrade to those seats upon booking.

And no I can't afford premium or business on these flights. I can admire from afar.

I don't know about seat lean angle? But that's on pretty much every westjet flight, those first few rows have more leg room. They definitely do a very poor job of describing anything or trying to sell the pseudo premium seat upgrade.

Those seats are generally a 51$ upgrade. They must be double on a fancy Dreamliner.

They are preferred seats from 2 perspectives. you get off the plane sooner and there is more legroom.

Economy on Dreamliner is generally decently comfortable for your average sized person. Really depends on how crucial leg room is for you (i.e. if you have extra long legs) or how long your flight is.

I’m 6’2” and flew economy on a Dreamliner overseas the past few weeks and found it much better than previous planes.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and paid for the extra. 8.5 hour flights, and hopefully no one takes the middle for the extra $100.

Saw the promo video for business class on these. God damn.

Same. No issues here flying cattle-class.

I usually fly in them when I go to Toronto and the dreamliner is flying. It's really nice - but at the end of the day you're still sitting in a seat in a plane. Flying is so temporary, even on longer flights, I just feel like before you know it, you're off anyway.

I'm a big fella, Economy on a dreamliner was awesome to me.. Flew to Toronto on one, then back from Montreal on a 737, and even though we had plus, i felt like dreamliner economy was way better.. other than the free booze.

It’s good shit. Bit wasted on kids. Haha

It’s actually harder to fly with kids this way. I was constantly getting in and out of my seat.

I have flown the Dreamliner 8 times now on long hauls including a 13 hour flight in standard Economy and it is WAY better than any other plane's economy, in my opinion. Also, you get fresh air rather than recycled, cabin altitude is a lot lower, humidity is higher, and it's about 40% quieter than other planes. I actively seek them out anytime I need to fly.

I came back on the Air Canada Dreamliner last night.
I was in the preferred seats behind premium economy. There a divider separating us and no toilets. I defo had more leg room, but I was surrounded by babies. I went for a wander around the plane to see the layouts.

The layout on the link is different than my long haul flight. But if you wanted leg room. Row 29, any of the seats on the left or right side of the plane will give you that.

I was pretty shocked when I flew the dreamliner the first time and realized that the environmental stuff they talked about wasn't just marketing speak. It legit makes the plane more comfortable. Also the larger windows.

Yeah flights are pretty hard on the body in a variety of ways - even just fresh air and extra humidity makes a huge difference to how you feel when you land. If the quieter plane helps you sleep, that's a bonus. Thankfully most of the airlines are using them now for longer hauls both because of how efficient they are and they don't need 350 passengers to make it worthwhile, so if you need to go to Europe/Asia/Oceania it's pretty easy to make sure you're on a 787.

The overhead bins are also enormous - every time I'm on one I see someone with a carry-on bigger than my checked luggage and this happens every time:

I have the new Sony ANC headphones, so I dont notice sound differences on planes too much.

My bigger issue is with loud talkers on planes. I find it very bizarre when people are willing to have complete strangers hear a whole conversation.

We’re we on the same flight? Landed around 2:50pm from Heathrow?

I had the pasta too. I shoulda ordered the chicken.
The food on the Delta flight from Minneapolis to London was waaay better.
I bought a chocolate croissant and a ham and cheese banquette as I knew I was going to starve on AC.
