    Default Dashcam Install (Calgary)

I have a dashcam that I am needing to be hardwired. I can most likely do it myself, but the removal and replacement of my A-Pillar is my struggle as I am not sure how to deal with the clips. If anyone has any advice on a good shop to take it to, I would appreciate the feedback.

YES, I know I can just cram the wire under the headliner and over the A-Pillar, then down the door, but I want to make the wire run around the airbag just in case there is an accident, I really don't want a wire to be slapping me in the face.

I've had work done at Mobile Solutions before and they were pricey, plus marked up my trim. Audio Concepts was great for those oldschool '90s members and I'd love to find a shop like them again.

    Thanks

I always tuck mine like this down to a fuse tap. Never paid a professional.

Not worried that it is covering the airbag by running it that way?

OK, looks like mixed messages there. Forum says to remove a-pillar and run around airbag, blackboxmycar blog says either way works.......hardest part is removing the cover, if I can remove the panel, I think I can do it all (haven't looked at removing fuse box cover), but I am not sure about the clips and how to remove them.

Double check on your vehicle that you actually have an airbag in behind the A Pillar. Many people get confused thinking there's one (especially if you see that little ABS logo) and often it's just a wire behind the A Pillar and a CURTAIN Airbag that deploys above your side windows (downwards).

Subaru's like this and I know I've taken my A Pillar off before; No physical airbag was behind, it's up in the roof / above the side windows.

Will vary depending on car. But also, if you tuck it in, you're generally tucking beside (because if there's something there it's going to block you from getting the wire in behind and above the airbag). Just remove the pillar and check, usually just clips, google and watch some youtube videos to find what sections you need to pull. Usually a firm tug and they pop right off.

I know there is an airbag based on images I’ve seen online. Just how do you remove and replace a clip that needs a 180 degree twist?

Just remove the negative battery terminal before you do it and itll be easy.

ACC (Accessory) Fuse = Dashcam turns on when vehicle is on (OR) Key positioned to ACC.

If you're hard-wiring a PMP or similar setup, you require two fuses to differentiate power when vehicle is on and when off. So you'd do the normal ACC, but you need something with power when the vehicle is off, and 99% of the time the door lock fuse is one that has that.

Just wow! Not that I'd expect anything any more intelligent from Blackbox...

"You can still run the wire up the A-pillar through the weatherstrip between the interior and the door. Running the wire here may result in some bulging of the weatherstrip depending on the vehicle but generally speaking it's still safe to do so. The airbag is designed to burst through the trim of the vehicle and if they were to go off they may damage the dash cam's cables (which are replaceable) but the airbag is still operational in our experience. "

Yeah the airbag is operational, but at the force that the airbags deploy, that wire, the connector and the dashcam itself could become a serious problem for the passengers.
