I think there is a difference between know how and choose to. I can use them quite effectively but won't unless no fork is available or im eating sushi.

Asian here and I used chopsticks all my life as well but I never knew I was using them wrong until I met my wife and she's like WTF, that's how kids hold them lol. I would use my fingers to roll open and squeeze to pick up. I changed real quick and think I use them like normal now.

This but more and more I just revert to a fork right away. Seems pointless to waste good time fumbling with chopsticks when I can be stuffing my face right away with a fork.
