Hai guys, I use this with two monitors
https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accesso...r/p/4X91D96881
Edit: 1 x HDMI plugged into laptop, 1 x HDMI plugged into adapter.
He might already have a USB-C charger that came with his laptop that he could use for power? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Otherwise though, you're right.
If I could find a D3000 for < $200, I'd pull the trigger.

That's not a dock. It's just an HDMI dongle. I'm in the same boat as ES. Single USB-C into my laptop, hooks up to two monitors, external mouse, keyboard, webcam, external mic, etc etc. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

There's a big difference between "some method of getting 2 monitors to work" and a "full feature, single connection dock".
Both have thier applications.
Anyway, I've de-prioritized this for myself. Wife's stupid surface 6 pro makes it even harder.

Most of these docks come with a short as fuck cable, which means the ugly ass dock has to sit on your desk. A longer 6ft active thunderbolt cable that can drive all that and hide the dock somewhere else ain’t cheap either haha.

I double-sided taped my dock to the bottom of my desk. The issue I'm running into is that I hot swap my M1 personal mac, and my intel work mac. The M1 mac can only drive multiple monitors on a displaylink dock, which works fine, but my intel mac can't run the displaylink dock with the lid closed, so I need to keep the lid propped open, and have my primary monitor mirror the mac screen. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Also, it doesn't charge, so I have to plug in 2 usb-c cables every time.

Swapping between macs and windows suck even if the Mac supports multiple monitors. You have windows using MST for multi displays, while Macs (because of macOS) only supporting thunderbolt daisy chaining so each setup is wired to the dock differently haha. All the TB docks, even the ones from Apple store, are built for MST on the HDMI/DP outputs. So you can only plug monitor into 1 of the HDMI/DP outputs, then use an USB-C to HDMI/DP adapter on the daisy chained TB port for the second monitor. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. I'm surprised nobody has hacked MST support into MacOS video drivers. It's not a hardware limitation, purely software. Intel MBP's with Bootcamp Windows supports MST just fine.

The "1 left" on the 16" option made me fomo into it. Thanks for the link. Maybe I can actually use all 3 of my monitors. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I was sold by the fact that it works for both M1 and Intel macs, since I hot swap between them. And the price was right, assuming it's even remotely close to what it promises. I've had mixed luck on kickstarter/indiegogo. I was burned by the Superbook a few years back.

I ended up getting three curved 27" Samsungs in the black Friday sales. All within my budget(& a 1080p webcam). I was impressed by the size and they were cheap.
I was going to buy two, but I was curious to see if I could get three working at some point.
So ive got two connected as before. I have no HDMI port to connect the 3rd.
On the laptop.
USB: Wireless Keyboard
USB: Wireless Mouse
HDMI: Monitor 1
USB C: Docking station:
Docking station
HDMI: to Monitor 2
USB: Webcam
USB: Spare
USB: Spare
Cat5 Port: Hardwire Internet
Am I looking at the USB to HDMI route then?

Most USB-C docks have two video-outs... there's probably a VGA or Displayport you can tap off of with an adapter to whatever your monitor takes.
If you need another USB 3.0 video out, those are usually tough to find.
TLDR: tonytiger wants to accelerate his daytrading losses
you guys need to get workstation laptops with DP or mini DP lol, i just have a 3 way splitter Mini DP to HDMI and it works marvelously.
2021 and everyone expects their laptops to be able to drive quad 4K monitors lol
