Default Connecting Dual Monitors to Work Laptop

I was gifted two old monitors. I want to set these up at home so I can work from home.

At work my laptop has a USB C connector. This connects to one of those Dell plug in boxes.
The keyboard, mouse and two monitors at work connect into this box.

Is there a generic cheapo equivalent of that docking box that I can purchase for my home set up?

I actually have this one for sale:

You would only need a USB-C->USB 3.0 cable.

I'm assuming you have a Dell laptop? I've never used a good "Universal Dock", and they're typically not THAT much cheaper. I'd recommend grabbing the Dell D6000, for your USB-C, or the cheaper version, D3100, for USB 3.0. Either of those is probably the one you're using at work.

    Thanks for the inputs.
I just had I.T. fixing something non related at my desk. I ..erm.. asked sweetly if I could have one of those boxes.
They said it should not be a problem, just issue a ticket and get my manager to approve it.
So I will see if I can get one free...

Dual 4K monitors + power on a single cable. You need a Thunderbolt 3 dock, shit ain't cheap, at least $200 for a basic one. USB-C (USB3) docks won't work, they only have bandwidth for 1 monitor. 2 x 1080p monitors you'll need at least thunderbolt 2, dual 4K or single 5k you'll need thunderbolt 3.

edit - I think I might be a Mac d-bag for too long now. On PC's you can get a USB-C dock that displays 2 monitors via MST.

I bought one for my home office. Every time I work from home it saves me about 2 hours of commuting. Paid itself off in a couple weeks.

My lame Hp work laptop has a DisplayPort & a VGA port. (SIM Card, and USB-C on it too, despite it being a meh) Makes it easy to add a couple monitors. Does your have similar?

What model laptop do you have?

The USB ones suck though, Mini DP to HDMI>HDMI have been the most reliable i found. Do most laptops have Mini DP though? or is that cause i have a workstation laptop.

Edit: i run three though so maybe the dual are ok.

Not sure of the model. Its a Dell work laptop. It has 1 USB C port, 1 HDMI and 1 usb on the left side and 1 usb on the right.
I'l only be working from home occasionally (bad weather etc). Most of the time i'l be at the office.
Its not a big deal, but for the type of work I do. I need two screens side by side to check data.

    Help us, help you.

Locate the white or silver sticker on the underside of the laptop, toward the middle of the casing. Read the sticker and look for the prefix "P/N." The number following this prefix is your computer's model number

That would be a USB-C with Displayport MST support, so you can get dual displays outta that. And with cheaper USB-C docks that support multiple DisplayPort over MST.

I've been a Mac sheep for way too long I guess, Mac's don't support USB-C DP MST so you need thunderbolt for dual displays haha.

The whole USB-C Thunderbolt 3 on the same plug is confusing as fuck. Wait till you want longer cable runs.

Oh and then there's HP's implementation of USB C on the Elitebooks where they are so crippled. No charging into laptop, no video out.
The expectation is you chalk up money for their branded docks or slimdock

So I got a DELL docking station but had to send it back. Work would not support it and install the drivers. The official work one is the Dell WD19DC. Before I purchase this... another idea came up.

I am being a cheapass about this. I admit it.

Ive have one screen connected though the HDMI port (Display port to HDMI).
Does anyone know if a second screen can be connected through the USB C port? Can this laptop support this..? (Dell Lattitude 3390 2-1)Im looking at Display port cables to USB C.
Does anyone know if this would work, or would two screens HAVE to go through a docking station?
