So efficient furnace saves energy by not working intermittently? That's all I learn. Kinda makes sense lol

Approx 10 year old mid-efficiency Lennox G60UHV based on the date of the manual, replaced flame sensor once maybe 2 years ago now as cleaning it barely helped (but worked enough to limp by until the new one arrived).

Place we moved out of had a 14 year old furnace. No issues other than it probably needed a cleaning, and one time I had to go clean the flame sensor with steel wool which took about 10 minutes. That house also had no insulation so the furnace was running pretty well 24/7 in Jan/Feb every year.

Had a Bryant Plus 80 in my previous home that was from the mid 90s. It ate through motor bearings every couple years, other than that all it needed was a new pressure switch.

New place has a High Eff Goodman... not looking forward to dealing with this thing in the future.

Got two of these suckers. They're well built. I'm so happy with my mid-efficiency furnace, I'd even show it off to Greta!

In my old house (lived there for ~3 years) we had a 15 year old high efficiency Lennox. It would not work 4-5 times per year. Half the time i just had to restart it, the other half was due to condensation build up. I had to blow through some of the tubes to 'unclog'it.

I get the feeling that the blower motor on mine needs about 2 gauges of thicker wire, that and maybe a gold plated connector where they put in a molex.

Tiniest bit of moisture in there and the cold/hot cycles seem to loosen it up, which can be fixed by simply unplugging the molex and snapping it back together. Not an intuitive or long term fix, but its a fix. I might do the contact cleaner chemical spray next time around.
    Cocoa $11,000 per ton.

7 year old Lennox and its a huge piece of shit.
I jinxed myself by posting in this thread. Tuesday night my inducer motor bearings shit the bed. Thank god for buddies in the industry, Amre had one for $700 but it had to be brought down from Edmonton but my buddy picked me one up for his cost of parts at $280 and I had it installed last night in about half an hour.

Another bonus for the seasoned furnaces - cheap ass electric motors, $130 retail at Princess Auto.

Board replacements at $1k per pop eat into those efficiency ratings very quickly.

13 year old Lennox from when the house was built in 2006. We moved here in 2012, I personally havent done anything to the furnace except a cleaning when we first moved in it seems to run fine. According to a guy who came in and split our ducts it could do with some sort of connection between the cold air return and then furnace that newer homes have (i have no idea what he is talking about though), any tips on maintenance would be great. Or if anyone has a good service contact I should get it checked out. Also my humidifer I am 90% sure does not work - the filter is pretty solid and I think it needs to be replaced yet they dont sell them in calgary.

I swear this high efficiency furnace bullshit was created to create more business for HVAC companies.

It's no different than the carbon tax. Pay more for less pollution.

What do you do in regards to a tune up and what to look for inspection?

He probably pays someone to do it but I'd be curious as to what this tune up and inspection consist of.

Correctamundo, I pay Action Furnace since they are my client.

They have some 70-point inspection, which includes things like cleaning flame sensors, checking igniters, cleaning various whatevers. You know, the kind of shit I'll never do.

They give me a list that I've never looked at. I'll ask them (this would make a great blog post, eh?).

Probably no different than the vehicle spring/fall multi-point checkups that a lot of garages offer, some people bother with these, some don't. I don't mind doing a lot of my own maintenance and in fact I find it somewhat therapeutic at times. Others do not and have no issues to pay someone else to do such, no knock on my part against those who do either.

Yes please post up a list/inspection of what they do. And if possible, how much total bill is?
