In the saddest of the 3 cases, one person even bought back their stolen item from the thief because it was cheaper than a new one and CPS refused to do anything even when they set up a meeting with the criminal. If there is a way for you to safely get it back yourself, you'll probably have much better luck taking that route. Test ride is a good idea haha.
