Default Sooo.... anyone tow a camper with their Subaru WRX?

    https://rvlifemag.com/4-cylinder-tow...le-comparison/

Read this awhile ago and decided to buy a 2012 X1 with the N20 and recently read the article again and noticed they towed with a WRX?! I would much rather be driving that car.... our trailer is 2900lbs dry with a 320lb tongue weight.
Anybody with a WRX ever done this??

That is a seriously terrible idea. You can't honestly think it would be a good idea?

Anyone with anything resembling concern for your safety, liability, and good practices would tell you this is a terrible idea.

However after your umpteeth thread on the topic, I’m all for it. Do it.

300 lbs tongue weight will have the rear suspension 100% bottomed out on a WRX. Been there, done that. (without the tongue as I am sane)

Wtf? Then how can reputable companies like this do this...

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...Lbcpvyqe8SAd97

Sorry, I'm still really new to all this. I took our camper last year in my old GLK350 (which is basically just a C350 sedan that sits higher) that had a 3500lb towing capacity and 280 tongue weight max and it drove fine, mind you, I didn't have to drive up and down any real steep inclines but I still encountered a few and it handled like a breeze (had brakes on the trailer)?! So i really don't get it, there are reviews I can find of people actually doing this too including the article I posted.

Those are meant for bike racks, or very VERY lightweight trailers (like towing a dirtbike). There's a reason Subaru doesn't list a towing capacity, it means DON'T.

Do yourself a favour and just research about towing. Even Beyond has a few good threads about it.

Did a bit of quick research and the 2015+ cars have stiffer and 1" shorter springs than 200-2014 WRXs, using more of the bumpstops for ride control. They are still a small compact sports car so I wouldn't bother trying to load them up too much.

I'm assuming the WRX is exactly the same here as it is in Europe, this is one of those cars where the owners manual there says you can tow and gives sufficient capacities but here in NA, they say don't tow with it at all... from what I've read (and yes tik tok, I have done a bit of research), its that in Europe, they're used to towing with small vehicles, whereas here, everyone has a hard-on for trucks, and therefore they assume we can't tow safely in a car and therefore don't want that liability... again, we're talking small trailers here, < 3000 lbs dry.

I dunno, kind of mute point anyways as I hate Subarus, but I am constantly looking for a car that can do the job.

In regards to Subaru, the suspension is different on some (maybe all?) models between Europe and NA. The Euro spec Legacy has tow capable rear air suspension whereas NA Legacys had light duty rear suspension and no pre-installed trailer wiring. Not sure on the Imprezas, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a difference as well.

Can it do it? Maybe. Should you do it? No.

It would do OP a lot of good if he was mute on this topic.

    This thread reeks of Mar.

OP can do what he wants. I just hope he doesn't hit another car when he crashes, or his Subaru transmission blows on the highway (because we all know those things are bullet proof)
