    @tirebob sounds expensive!

Can't recall if I have posted the statements with the pieces before, but here's some for context:

    Eat-More
    Collage on paper
    22x30”
    2021

"Braces are funny things. So much suffering, so much sacrifice. For years, your teeth will glisten with silver and get caught in things while your parents tell you it’s all for the best. It’s all for you. And they’re not lying. It is for you and you’re stupid and a brat to complain. But until you’ve had braces yourself, you’ll never understand their wired misery. It’s their horribleness that leads to rebellious, teenage, poorly calculated risks. Risks like ignoring all the rules and eating your favorite chocolate bar with peanuts in it, which you’d hope wouldn’t break the braces, but more often than not would, which then required more visits to the Orthodontist for repairs. I’d tell the doctor and my parents that I was eating chocolate bars that didn’t have peanuts in them, and some must have snuck in there by accident at the factory. My mom would always say that braces were responsible for my five-thousand-dollar smile. More like six-thousand. Sorry."

^great work, and love the accompanying story. I totally know about the six thousand dollar smile. My 6k smile is still not straight because I kept eating shit that would break the braces.

Started a smaller 24x24 inch today. Mixed media with oil paints. Packing some serious texture into this one! Time to let it dry and then see what else I want to do.

@tirebob what are you mixing into the paint? Is the copper foil?

Just finished this one. Real pain to photograph it, so much of the yellow bounced around into the white spots. EDIT: Is there a way to make the picture smaller?

When I was younger, I distinctly remember looking at myself in the mirror, with my head barely visible above the counter and thinking to myself, “I don’t feel any different this year.” Every year I’d grow taller, but I’d feel the same way. Soon enough my head was centered in that same mirror. I remember when I was finally able to open the mailbox and look down into it, rather than stand on my tip toes and overextend my hand to try and feel if there was any mail inside. I didn’t realize it at the time, but a lot had changed. I had changed. I’d grown bigger and the world seemed to grow along with me as I became more aware of it. Childhood goes by in a flash, really. Delving into the memories of my youth for this series of work has led me to some fantastic conversations with my family, including one with my brother where we talked about just how much our mom really provided for us to make us happy, despite all hardships. If you’d ever been to our house and seen the basement, we had what was essentially a toy mountain.

One of the gems from this collection was this toy slot machine from our trip to Las Vegas in the nineties. Being in Vegas, everyone of course wanted to gamble but my brother and I were too young to enter the casinos. So, when the rest of our family went gambling, we were left outside in the casino lobbies with our toy slot machines. With this particular toy, each time you would crank the red lever down, the head would emerge from the slot machine and squirt water into your face! It didn’t matter if you got a jackpot or not - you got a squirt at every crank. Perhaps this was the designer’s fun way of deterring children from gambling. This didn’t stop me from going to Vegas when I was older, gambling, and, of course, losing. The toy tried to warn me, and I didn’t listen.

@Chantastic No man... That is just oil paints I mix on pallet. The texture in this one comes from all things, cold wax medium I mixed in with coffee grounds lol! What you see above was really more a colour base to build off from. It has already morphed into a different vibe but pictures later!

    Love the Jackpot Slot Machine!

Neat! It was so reflective I just assumed it was a foil of some kind

Don't know if it's art but im into watch building.

Working on this lil guy right now. Something different than my usual dive watch. You can flip it around on the wrist to display the back if you wanted (reverso type).

Neat. This looks partially inspired by Closure or Downward Spiral liner art.
That's just what it makes me think of, anyway.

I had to actually look up those terms, but I can see how you got there.

Stylistically I think I am inspired by a lot of work by Gerhard Richter but I certainly am not trying to copy it as much as trying some of his techniques In combination with some of my own.

    Cheers!
