My MLA is really stepping up to the plate, and not cracking at all during this mess.
If it's who I assume it is, I think trying to balance cutting healthcare and front-line wages during a pandemic, yelling at doctors at their home, introducing a Saudi-funded app with shit privacy that takes provincial money out of province at the expense of a much simpler and cheaper change, all the while trying to shift the healthcare system in a way that benefits the business you and your wife own is some admirable multi-tasking.

I wonder if Quebec is doing tests on community transmission, I feel like Alberta will see an explosion of cases once they allow community transmission cases with slight to moderate symptoms to be tested. Until that time we will have small numbers. Unfortunately if we do have bigger numbers I fear a greater lockdown will happen and also that it will prolong it.

If you're referring to who I think you are, then the following in my opinion may potentially be pieces of shit:

Well the shortage of the genetic material needed for testing is coming. 99% test is kinda wasted the last 2 weeks. It's probably time to save the ammo until it gets really bad.

All I know is you'd have to be stupid to ever run for public office. The amount of piss and shit you have to endure for marginal pay is ridiculous. No wonder the government is compiled by a bunch of idiots.

Can someone explain the conflict to me? From what I gathered from the article his family owns a company that brokers health and dental benefits and that the government 'delisted' some activities?

Does that mean they are not covered by blue cross? Is this in reference to a specific class of drugs? like biologicals?

And the conflict is that if things aren't covered by blue cross people will need 3rd party coverage and his company can sell that coverage?

Yes. But that guy is well beyond the typical levels of public scrutiny.

They make bank though. Cushy benefits and government packages and then when you 'retire' you can move into the private sector as a lobbyist and make bank.

It appears social distancing has bought BC healthcare provider some time to reduce the covid pandemic impact.

I think this is pretty clear the conflict:

The thread shows that Andrea Shandro forwarded emails sent to Vital Partners to the minister's office and the minister responded to them.
If they're supposed to be hands off, why is she directly forwarding emails from this one company direct to the minister. That sure screams of a conflict to me..

Considering the emails were probably directly aimed at the minister it is feasible why they were forwarded and ya she was probably like 'holy shit you should read these terrible things these mouth breathers are writing to me because there appears to be a conflict even though this has been disclosed and determined to not be a conflict'. Do you think it is reasonable for people to call and email a private citizen because of this?

Don't get me wrong, his reaction was out of line, but so was the public in even emailing the company in the first place. Just another reason why being a member of public office is a terrible idea.

Skip to around 51min part. Wow.

So the models are completely changed and are now estimated to be roughly 20X less. The UK went from expected 500,000 deaths to 20,000. If we do the same math to the US's expected 2.2million, were looking at around 110,000 deaths. Thats roughly double the Flu's annual death rate.

How is there no mention of this at all in the press????

    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/n...ains-unchanged

Neil Ferguson, an Imperial College London professor, said his original estimate, which showed the coronavirus would kill 500,000 people in the U.K., remains true, while a new model reading reflecting the influence of lockdown measures saw that estimate shrink to 20,000 or fewer.

"I think it would be helpful if I cleared up some confusion that has emerged in recent days. Some have interpreted my evidence to a UK parliamentary committee as indicating we have substantially revised our assessments of the potential mortality impact of COVID-19," Ferguson said in a Twitter thread posted Thursday.

"This is not the case. Indeed, if anything, our latest estimates suggest that the virus is slightly more transmissible than we previously thought. Our lethality estimates remain unchanged," he continued.
    And more specifically:

Ferguson, who tested positive for the coronavirus, said Wednesday the coronavirus death toll is unlikely to exceed 20,000 and could be much lower if lockdown measures in the U.K. stay in place
The reduced numbers are if places continue to stay in lockdown and limit social interacting. Which is exactly the opposite of what Trump is trying to push.

R0 seems to be 3. The thing is, if it is 3, then transmission has been much, much higher than any model (even the original Imperial model, which only went up to R2.6) has predicted, and since numbers of fatalities hasn't been even close to expected... so...

R0 of 3 would also mean the pandemic started much, much sooner than any prediction.
New Oxford study suggests millions of people may have already built up coronavirus immunity

Would make sense. Theres lots of people out there that have it and had either no reaction or mild and we just didnt know it.
