remember when we thought the only risk to Covid was being old and dying and we didn't know that it could seriously fuck up the bodies of young people, permanently?

    ah, those were the days.
So even though we don't really have any data verifying this yet. We could pretend for arguments sake that it is 100% accurate. How is slowing down the rate at which young people get this permanent damage, change the fact we will all still have to deal with it at some point in our lives? Is complete economic destruction a worthy price to pay for giving people an extra year before they get covid?

I dunno man. I don't see complete economic destruction when engineers are still billing out $200/hr. Unless they were billing out $400/hr before this all started, which makes this tragic.

Running nose and/or sore throat (only single instance, not multiple) off symptom list for under 18 and no known exposure.

CBC had an interesting article specific to schools and kids. Positivity rate for kids tested is climbing quickly. Over the past week 70 cases per day have come from kids aged 10-19

MSM Libs has been saying that kids aren't the primary source of transmission. Fake news!

Not really, I think everyone knew schools reopening would cause a increase. But I figured pictures might help the illiterate beyonders that keep crying fake pandemic. (Probably not though, they likely can't read the title)

Can confirm proof, I don’t have kids and I don’t have covid.

    That’s how this works right?

Kids bringing it home from school and spreading it to their grandparents is probably going to be a major source of the hospitalizations and deaths. I think that was probably well understood before the kids went back.

I dunno, kids are disgusting and gross and filthy, but I wouldn't call them "dumb". or at least not their faces . . . .

We have a co-worker who goes on a rampant speech on how giving out halloween candy is not going to cause any covid issues at all. I'm really interested to see what the results will be by next week (regardless who is right or wrong).

Just like stocks, people talk a lot when they are right and stay completely silent if wrong.

This is just the way the world is with many things, just highlighted in covid times.

To be a bit cliched, let's divide the world broadly into two types:

    1. Those that just want to be realistic about the information as we have it (accepting that there are many things we don't yet know and many things we won't ever know).
    2. Those that desperately want to believe something is true and are willing to go to great lengths to convince themselves (and others if they can) that their belief is true.

The trouble is most people think they are #1, when they are really #2.

This is more interesting from a disease tracking perspective than it is from a pathogenesis perspective. The genotype can change without changing the virus from our perspective.

Kudos to CBC for actually publishing the % of positive, instead of raw numbers.

No doubt most of these kids are only mildly sick, but again, C19 is an ELDER issue. Avoid people over 60 if you are positive or wear a mask to prevent xmission.

El Paso orders shutdown of all essential businesses as things explode there. ICU capacity nearly maxed out with over 70% of those being covid patients.
