I got an email yesterday saying people who think they have symptoms and not deathly ill can call 811 and they will send you a test kit. How do you send it in, or does someone pick it up? And how long is the process to know if you have it or not?
Pretty sure it's just a swab and then the lab itself processes it. So they could drop it off, let you come out and do the swab/test and then they pick it up and take it for processing.

Have a kid with a history of Pneumonia. Generally like to have a medical professional listen to her lungs when she's got a cough to verify it's "just a cough". Wondering these days if it's better or worse to take her to the family doctor for this. Really hate healthlink, but may have to call them to see what the procedure is these days.

The problem with health link is they just tell you to go to emergency most of the time because they always have to use an abundance of caution and obviously aren't able to examine you in person. Understandable, but also kind of a waste of time.

You usually do get a bill but payment is not enforced so people just don't pay.

Well my work just implemented work from home rules, its nice to be in a small tech company. My boss and his wife are probably happy they made the choice on Friday to start it off, her immune system is screwed up and I live in Nolan Hill right by where that lady works.

Its nice to work from home, the commute is so nice and short.

See your GP within 48 hours or proceed to emergency or urgent care.

No I'd say a lot of the strain on ambulance system are people exempt from paying those ambulance fees.

I still don't get why ambulance ride extends past triage. Sorry you've been triaged as non urgent - there's the waiting room. Off you go off the crew goes.

What happened to that program with LPN and NA's taking over interim care to free up the crew?

I imagine its a liability thing. When the paramedics hand off the patient they also pass off whats going on and what they've diagnosed.

If you just drop someone off in the waiting room and then either they get worse or they don't fully communicate the situation to the nurses it could lead to some miscommunications that cause issues.

Though I wonder why there isn't a system in place where there is a dedicated nurse or staff member that intakes ambulance arrives and is in charge of handing the patients off once admitted. Maybe we'll see things shift as our system gets more overloaded.

They can't do that, out of an abundance of caution. Just like when the same homeless person comes in every single day with "chest pain" to try get a bed. They still get seen every single time as our tax dollars fly out the window. The one time they turn him away, maybe he has a heart attack, and then there is a huge problem. It's dumb, but that's why they do it.

As for LPN's and NA's looking after them, I haven't heard about a program like that. Makes more sense for paramedics to be with them in case they code or something I would think, but that only applies to actual emergencies which most times it is not.

HELO program, guess it was EMS folk stationed there.

Why would EMS handle a patient that codes inside the walls of a hospital? Sorry you transfer your notes to the triage nurse and move on. Doctors are supposed to read that intake chart aren't they?

Patient codes after triage ambulance transport or not it's the hospital's responsibility. When do we get back to rational choices in healthcare?

    probably before socialized healthcare.

But seriously I'd love the numbers - how many wrongful death lawsuits could we pay for what it's costing us in ambulances and crews by this methodology?

When we get the compound up and running, free loaders will not be allowed.

P.s. 7 cases in AB. 44 Albertans were on the cruise that returned on Feb 21.

What? I can't buy my way in with nickels?

PS: To all the billionaires thinking that the perfect getaway vehicle is an ocean going yacht AKA cruise ship now that all the passenger docks are contaminated. Nelson laugh - Haha!

This is truly sad. We need to do better to protect them.

All of Italy has been quarantined.

I nominate ZenOps for compound treasurer.

I wonder if the work culture of Italy makes it easier for the government to make people stay home and quarantined. I feel like working in Italy is pretty chill. Get in at around 9, work till 1.. Take 1.5 hours for lunch and then work to 6.

Canadian government would never do that unless it was crazy bad.

The hoard list is different depending on where you live. In El Paso Texas, you definitely want to be stocking up on water. In Calgary or Edmonton, probably toilet paper and paper towels, then potato chips, cheezy poofs, and twinkies. Because we have one highway, and a severly constrained shipping ability - meaning volumetric goods are the first to be axed if they need to ship a container of SPAM to keep people alive.

Yes, go ahead and hoard twinkies if you've got extra cash. This is literally the one time you can see a disaster coming - and can still at least enjoy a few of the nicer things before it might wreck everything.

That describes southern Italy. Northern Italy, particularly Milan has a similar pace to North America and works full days.

Where my family is from still shuts everything down in the afternoon from noon till 5 eats and sleeps, and opens again from 5-9pm. Town of a few thousand people though, big cities aren't quite that slow.
