I thought Sundays were low days in covid case numbers, nevertheless another 727 cases for alberta today.

So that begs the question, why?? Seems totally fucking stupid to not have them everywhere, unless of course the fear narrative plays so much better in the political landscape than actually doing something easily that easily helps can achieve. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Wondering on those people on the verge of a breakdown as we go into lockdown2.0...
The psychotic behaviours didn't get better with some normalcy...
And it's bound to get worse when the next lockdown starts.
More likely liability. They use these strips that aren't "gold standard", someone spreads covid to their family, family member dies, government gets sued because the strips didn't work. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Except that there is nothing in anything health related that is 100% let alone a fraction of that. They implement regular flu shots and those are far less of a guarantee of working than covid detection, if as Buster indicates are approximately 90% effective at detection, and those who took it still get sick and pass it onto others thinking they are safe. If they can avoid that liability I am sure a test strip should not pose an issue, especially if it is sold as exactly that... 90%.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
This is the glaring problem when trying to discuss politics with the left wing. The government does not give a fuck about you or I. They care about re-election. Period. They have nobodies best interest in mind but they're own. So it becomes difficult to understand politicians motives and reasoning behind some decisions that have no logical purpose. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

The sensitivity of the tests (let's assume 90%), is very low for a test but that doesn't actually matter. The issue is that we aren't used to considering tests as "screening tests", which are designed to manage an epidemic at the population level. We, and the gov't, think of tests in the context of "diagnostic tests". They are both tests, but have very different purposes. 90% is not good enough if you are trying to figure out what medication to give a sick person. But it is plenty good enough for a large population of people to start to reduce the circulation of those infected. In the case of population level screening tests, speed, and frequency are much, much more important than accuracy. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Since we haven't had anything resembling covid in about 100 years, in terms of epidemic potential, then we don't have the gov't, regulatory or public recognition that screening tests are even a thing. For instance, the FDA doesn't even have a regulatory pathway to approve screening tests. Trump or Trudeau could approve them or at least slam through a regulatory pathway for them with executive orders or an order from the PMO....but most of the gov't people are more worried about how to leverage stimulus packages into more gov't power. They also don't want to see those cases charts go through the roof. Imagine if people had test strips and could report a positive to the gov't through the app. Do you want to be Hinshaw standing up there talking about 10,000 cases today, instead of 1,000 cases? Do you want to be Trudeau on the end of that?

Yes. How many right leaning people have you met that think the government is their savior, knows what is best for them, and trusts everything they say? This is an issue that seems to directly lie with the left. Covid has made this even more aware. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
But I hear that government hating anarchists are left wing. Still utterly confused.

Got it?
Anyone using the AB tracing app or Cdn app? Which is better? Useful?
Trace2gether is garbage because in order for it to work you have to have it on all the time while out and the app must run in the foreground and the screen can’t be locked. AB govt advises that you place your phone down on a surface or in your pocket so the screen turns off but the app remains active.
My issue with this is that I use other apps while I’m out like a list app and messaging and I can’t be bothered going back and making sure trace2gether is running in the foreground.
I think that the fed govt one just needs to be running. That’s why I think that AB should get over it self and migrate the users because 500k people might have it installed but like me I’m sure it’s not running in the foreground.

App has worked in the background for quite some time

The federal one relies on the Apple Google API, which is cool but doesn’t actually do any contact tracing. And entirely relies on the honour system.

But since thats how it used to work, I dont use it.
JK said on Nov 6th that it should work in the background now. Found this review:
Doesn’t run in background.
After Kenny’s latest update speech (Nov 6-2020) he said that the application has been updated to run in the background. After visiting the apps GitHub repository and reading through the various bits that make up the app, one of the white papers for the OpenTrace component even states that due to iOS restrictions the app can’t collect or send useful information in the background.
From the whitepaper: https://bluetrace.io/static/bluetrac...383eb33b3c.pdf
6 IMPLEMENTATION CHALLENGES
iOS background Bluetooth limitations
While the Android version of the OpenTrace reference implementation functions fully as both Central
and Peripheral while the app is in both foreground
and background execution modes, the iOS version of
OpenTrace is bound by restrictions that iOS has on
background Bluetooth functionality.
When in the background, the iOS app advertises in
a proprietary advertisement format that is not part
of the Bluetooth standard and thus not readable by
non-iOS devices. It is also unable to scan for other
BlueTrace devices in any meaningful way.
The current workaround is to encourage iOS users
to keep their app in the foreground
