I don't know the details of Sask specifically, but the positivity rate is a reflection of who they are choosing to test. If they stop testing asymptomatic people, and only focus on people with active symptoms, you can rest assured the positivity rate will jump up a lot. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Didn't they just say the restrictions would be in place till at least the 12th now? Not sure where the extra 2 days came from? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Probably to see if there is a trend building after testing resume to normal but I thought it was always 12th. Positivity rate was as low as 5% but it's back to 7% today. So another 3-4 days a trend should shows up.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The number I am curious about, is what is the case count if we only take into account PCR tests that were positive within the 1-25 cycles? Eliminate the Positive test results that are specifically known to cause false positives, or not reflective of infection. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

This is a significant source of confusion, and justifiably so. The problem is that COVID-19 and SARS-CoV2 are not really interchangeable terms. COVID-19 is the disease caused by the virus, but PCR only tests for evidence of the virus. If your CT values drop, but you are still suffering from COVID-19 symptoms in hte ICU, you are still a "case" but at that point your infectivity might be low with little or no viable virus still present any more. The problem is that PCR is very useful as a diagnostic tool, but it's not so great as a public health tool. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I think there is data on the number of people that are tested that don't have symptoms, but have CT values of great than 35 (which is the cutoff). These people are the pool that are false positives. IF you are symptomatic, but have CT values above 35, then it is possible you have another disease, but it's unlikely, based on the unique set of symptoms associated with COVID-19 (ie loss of tase/smell, happy hypoxemia). Since we are not doing asymptomatic testing, my guess is that the rate of false positives that we are seeing in our stats is very low. Probably less than 1%.
However, published CT values would tell us more about the number of active cases we have identified that are contagious.

Looks like kids in Ontario positive rate went from 5% to 20% after holidays.
How sick do they get tho?! Nothing like killing your elders for something that affects you moderately

So since schools apparently aren’t a driver of spread (somehow the province with a broken contact tracing system knows this for sure), does that mean that any increase over the next two weeks can be blamed on people breaking the rules? Just like that big spike in the fall is in no way related to schools whatsoever
See Crank. See Crank Walk. Walk Crank Walk.
Even if schools were a large source of spread, we would still keep them open.
You are always free to keep your kid home if that’s your prerogative, but a lot of people rely on schools to be open to live their lives.

BC, Sask, Ont and Quebec are facing some steep increases in cases...
Alberta's are falling?
This province is not really a compliant populous... WTF is going on?
Apparently our MLA's are superspreaders, and them being gone for the holidays decreased our numbers.
this x1000. The keep open / force close decision is only partly due to probability of spread. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Paramedics even still aren't considered in the first phase despite being in the highest risk, and least protected environments, as well as in multiple locations that are "locked down". Its absurd the prioritization this province is taking. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Less people getting tested, that’s the reason our numbers aren’t going up. In my opinion, this whole thing is a bag of smashed assholes... kids can go to school because the risk of them dying is not as great... just like anyone under 50, but we can’t use the age stat for those that aren’t kids for some reason. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. I like how people can “choose to keep their kids home to keep them safe”... I wish we could choose to go out to a restaurant or andyL’s rub n tug if we decided to as opposed to being told we can’t. Those that can choose not to go out because of the risk can keep doing what they are being told to do, that’s their choice, much like our choices we face with our kids. My son is going back to school, I’ll risk my health for his education based on the numbers. Kids are more hygienic and make better decisions than adults after all when it comes to pandemic spread mitigation.
