An ICU nurse my wife and I know told my wife yesterday that the ICU is overflowing. Another woman my wife knows messaged her yesterday and said her husband (who is a firefighter), came home from his shift and told her all the Covid calls are the same--whole family has it and dad is on the couch struggling to breathe. He said that paramedics are now having to triage them, so only the worst go to hospital.

Ages and races weren't mentioned. All I seem to come across in the news is generally younger, but I'm sure we've all heard that. Regardless, it isn't great to hear.

Only a one in 17 billion chance hydroxychloroquine doesn’t work’: medical professor

Hydroxychloroquine really works says Professor of Medicine Dr Peter McCullough, describing the treatment as “the most widely used therapeutic” to treat COVID-19 in the world.

“The chances that it doesn’t work are calculated to be one in 17 billion,” he told Sky News.

“There’s no controversy over whether or not hydroxychloroquine works. The controversy is on the public health approach to COVID-19."

Mr McCullough said “the virus invades inside cells, so we have to use drugs that go inside the cell and work to reduce viral replication".

“The drugs that work within the cell and actually reduce viral replication are hydroxychloroquine, Ivermectin, doxycycline and azithromycin”.

“Sadly, in the United States and I know in Australia this happens all the time, patients get no treatment whatsoever. They literally are told to stay at home until they are sick enough to go to the hospital”

“I think that honestly it’s atrocious.

“History will look back on that and think it was the worst way to handle a potentially fatal illness."

Seems like people in India don't understand the benefits of masks to protect against covid any better than canandians. Or maybe some parts of India people are just not very worried? Or both?

This pic from BBC news struck me as relevant.

Masking hasn’t been a thing in India except for a small number of people since July last year.

The two persons in the pic have masks though. They seem to subscribe to the Daryll Sutter school of infectious disease.

Shocking how long it took. When does Africa get hit? Is Brazil still a shitshow?

Which ICU? Interesting to know if it corresponds with the hardest hit areas of the city (NE).

All the ICU's are overflowing. It's not like NE'ers are only allowed at Loughheed.

I forget what that festival is called, but it's super cool. When it's done, everyone looks like they played GoldenEye-64 on paintball mode.
They prolly should've taken a knee instead of doing that during this Corvids Boom...

Agreed. There's just not enough accurate information coming out of India to understand what's happening. I thought for sure last months of last year would be a peak, but it died down as quickly as it went up. Was it herd immunity? There were reports of small sampling of cities were they estimated 70% of dense population had already contracted covid. They had festivals, elections, and nothing happened. Life was as normal as it gets for India.

This year, nothing really changed to get to where they are today. There's just not enough testing/data to figure out if it's variants at play. Anecdotally, the way this wave has been spreading within households, you would believe that it's much more contagious this time around, but there's no evidence to support that with no data.

    Who the fuck knows anymore.

That is what we feared would happen. Thanks Nenshi.
